Built motor startup problems
I put this in TECH, but though some of the F.I. guys may be able to help too.
Long story short as I can.
Had........
stock motor
Rev Hard turbo kit
Precision sc34
Upgraded intercooler
Hondata and 550's
3" exhaust and no cat.
Installed.......
Built GSR longblock 9.5:1 Cr.
G.E. 2.0 sleeved
Eagle rods
Weisco pistons
Square ported head
Rev Hard intake manifold, port matched
Supertech black nitrate valves
Portflow springs
Crower retainers
Using previous tune to start up, since I have nobody local to retune the Hondata.
Upon start up, code 1 for 02 sensor, and code 14 for IAC. Thought a wiring problem since 02 code came on at startup, not after warmup. Car idles around 500rpms once warmed up, even with idle controll ALL the way out.
Figured the IAC must not line up correctly with new intake manifold since the stock throttle body doesn't even match up well with the manifold and the cold start had to be removed from it in filled in, in order not to have a vacuum leak. I am switching to a RPM 70mm throttle body anyway. The Rev hard manifold only has 1 water outlet, the smaller one is plugged off. I had to tee off the thermostat line to run to the back of the block and to the IAC so that it would get water flow.
Then, a deal came up to switch out cars with my buddy, my GSR body with Rev Hard kit, for his CX with Full-Race kit and SC63 turbo, same Hondata, 550's, 3"exhaust but a Aeromotive FPR, his tune was set for 52lbs of fuel pressure instead of 43 on my tune.
I put my build engine in the hatch, started it up, got the same codes, 1 for O2, 14 for IAC. Different wiring harness and O2.
So, could my tune be so far off that it instantly sets off the code, even in cold start? And would the tune be the reason the idle is so low? No clue on the IAC problem?
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Built motor startup problems (drvfast)
Hmmm do you have your stock I/M? I'd swap those out first to see if there was a difference.
Did you you extend your O2 wires for any reason? I'd make sure you didn't nick or pinch some wires. Time to bust out the Multimeter!

Yep, same tune and 550's. I'm not even to the point of boosting yet.

No, Rev Hard I/M. Didn't change any of the O2 wires, did the same thing on 2 different cars, 2 different wire harnesses, etc.
Thanks for the reply's

Re: Built motor startup problems (kaj)
Iam going to give it a shot here...
did you change ecu's? like was it tunned on a P28 but now your using a P72 or another ecu? also did you make sure the ground on the T stat housing is on and clean?
other things to check (not saying you did it but I have seen it done)
TPS and MAP sensor plugs reversed (seen this 1001 times)
valve adjusted to tight (low idle/wants to die)
**if OBD1 engine/car** IAC and purge control or IAT plugs mixed up (IAT will fry if plugged in to IAC plug so I would think maybe you have purge and IAC mixed)
GSR secondary wiring plug also may be pluged in to IAC causing a code 14 cuz IAC plug is hanging
IAC wires are normally blue or black with black stripe and a yellow with a black stripe
purge is a red with stripe and a green if Iam correct
IAT is normally green with black stripe and a black wire
P/S controll has a green plug cant miss it.
those are all the plugs I see people mix up on a daily basis..good luck and I hope you figure it out.

Re: Built motor startup problems (99Hybrid_Hatch)
Thanks for the tips man.
ECU's are the same.
Checked all the wire combo's, but am going back out today to double check EVERYTHING. Car is cold now, going to re-check the valves.
We'll see

Re: (hypa)
A bit of everything.
I changed out the throttle body to an RPM 70mm that fit the Rev Hard manifold better, elimated vacuum leaks and sealed up better.
The timing belt was WAY loose, tightening it up cured alot of the running issues. Also, a couple valves were too tight.(David )
Air temp sender was bad also, don't think that did anything in particular.
The big one was the 02 which was all my fault, I mis-read the code as 1, when it was 10...LOL, hey I was REALLY burnt out.

Re: (Reilly)
been there before.
Thanks for the update. I'll be starting my newly built motor tonight, and want to be ready for anything.

no fair! it wasn't THAT loose! it was as tight as you could get it without prying on the tensioner
