Default built motor pass smog?

i was wondering if i build a motor for boost the whole 9 yards yada yada yada...will it still pass smog when the turbo stuff is not on the car? ill just slap in the stock ecu but im not sure if it will run correctly. there is a local guy who is selling a 00 b16a2 with 120k miles and id like to swap it into my 00ek and get it Bar'd. since the motor is out and i plan on boosting it i want to get it all done so my car has no down time but im not sure if it will pass the Bar test when it comes to smog with the lower compression. anyone give me any advice? Lasky racing looks like a good place. im looking to get around 300whp RELIABLY. so id build it for 400whp and have it at 300whp. thanks. OR as long as the compression is good on that motor can i boost that to like 250whp reliably on a good tune? thanks.

If everything outside of the motor is stock, nobody can tell or prove what's inside the engine. It'll pass fine since it's probably lower compression also being built for turbo.

so if its like 9:1 compression then it will run just fine with the stock ecu? or do i need to advance or retard timing?i know ill put it back to stock for the bar and smog every 2 years but im just wondering if it will pass the sniffer with the lower compression and the stock ecu?

It should. There are no guarantees. If you have all the smog equipment for that motor then it is a 85% sure it will. That includes all vacuum lines.

And as for the timing go with spec. + or - 2, over that and it's a fail.

Remember these ref's are car guys and like to see a clean job. Don't have wires all over the place, and crap lying around, you will make a better impression and might get better results.

Good luck, if it doesn't pass, search for "smog" here on h-t......
