Built engine+Smog testing
I am wanting to know if an engine with a fully built bottom end will pass smog? Does the compression matter be it low, high or stock. Thanks

Re: Built engine+Smog testing (snt78)
Anyone have an answer to this question, or am I the only one that has reservations about building my engine due to legality issues? I have enough experience with turbo to tear down the set-up every two years, however, what is the use if the engine as a whole will never pass. Thanks

I don't know anything about CA emisions but up here in WA you can pass with just about anything. My first LS/Vtec setup passed emissions with no cat and only 700 miles on it. It is basically all in the tune.

It's going to pass just fine if you have stock cams and 0,0 gears.
The bottom end isn't going to affect smog much, if at all. Unless of course the engine is misfiring already and you have 3:1 compression heh.
