built b16 turbo numbers?
What is the max hp you could make on this setup for a B16a2?
Cp pistons 9:0:1
Brian crower rods
Apexi headgasket 1.5mm 82 bore
Skunk 2 pro series valves
Darton sleeves
Arp headstuds
Comp stage 4 clutch
Aem cam gears
I am just curious what the max is. My goal is 500 with the right turbo

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
On a b16 with no cams and headwork 500whp is not even remotely possible on 93. You simply don't have enough displacement... and with a static compression ratio of 9:1 it definitely won't happen.
you might make 400-420 but that's about the safe limit for a 1.6l on pump 93.

Except in that article the power was measured by a load bearing dyno, not at the wheels, so to ballpark the WHP output of the 85% of the crank it probably would have done 425-440 in a chassis at the wheels.
Also they retained OEM rods with forged pistons however the question really is, how long would this thing have held up at that power level i suppose..

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
Get some springs n retainers with a decent cam and you shouldnt have an issue. I saw a setup for a piston and rod b16 with type r cams make 475 on a precision 5831. 500 is pushing the limits of 93 regardless.

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
The b16 has tiny cams, small ports and small valves.
it was designed as a high revving na motor. head work is needed to approach 500whp on 93.
Now if he had a 2 liter it would be more reasonable because more displacement equals more power and torque for a given fuel amount.

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
My b16 makes 494whp on our mustang dyno. 83mm, 8.5:1, stock port head, itr cams, s366@28# on e85. Only revving to 9000, still climbing at that point. We've had cars make around 23% more power on another local dyno for comparison.

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
Yea on e85 it's most definitely doable and then some, Honda's are making 800whp on e85.
For a sub 2 liter engine 500hp is the chemical limit of 93 and that's pushing it to the point of unsafe. like I said 420-440 is a much more reasonable and safer power figure. if you run methanol injection with a fairly aggressive 70/30 blend as opposed to 50/50 you should be able to make 500 with a fairly decent safety margin. just don't get a tank of **** gas or forget to keep the methanol topped off or you're in trouble

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
mr dylthomas, when the project is done and tuned by a good tuner let as know how meny.
at my project b16a2 stock head, throttle and inlet and 30psi we had 460hp with 93ron (GT3071R)
with the GTX3071 that has a lot more flow it would be bad ecu tunning not to have 500

Wasnt entirely sure when I posted that lastnight but I just confirmed it, both are owned by the same publisher group "Source Interlink Media" so its very likely you did see it featured in Modified Mag and I saw it in Honda Tuning so they could give people twice the reading coverage.

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
Yes got valves, about 2 months ago all of them burnt getting tuned on the stock motor so that's what called for the motor build ;].. And yes Turbo will def post numbers, just got the motor pulled today

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
I made a little over 400whp @14psi on 93 with an 81mm B16 9.5:1 cpr with GSR cams, and a Peakboost 35r topmount turbo setup tuned on S300. Thee same setup made 55whp @24psi on C16.
My last setup was a stock sleeve, 81mm B16 9:1 cpr, stock port head with Blox B intake cam and Blox A exhaust cam, PFab log manifold, and Garret 57 trim t3/t4 .63 a/r. It made 470whp @21psi on 93, turbo was maxed, coulda squeezed a bit more with fuel, but it cracked a sleeve eventually. Tune was mint, internals looked mint, but it's pump gas... I wouldn't trust it much further...

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
A 35 series turbo on a 1.6L is getting dangerously close to dyno queen status. If you have to push your engine to redline just to make your peak for a split second, it's a pretty shitty setup. Sure, it's fun to brag about the numbers, but those numbers would have no real use in any format.

any thoughts on a stock sleeve 81mm b16a forged internals 10.3:1 gt3076 on 100 or 93 octane hoping to reach at least 500hp is it doable??? Head is ported with springs and retainers undecided on cams. Went with stock CR because cali. When smog comes around i can just take off turbo and slap stock ecu and cams in and pass the sniffer

The GT3076R is a fine choice, just make sure its within the realm of what you're trying to do. You don't need over 450whp to be potent in California.
As for the whole SMOG issue, I can't help you, as I'd never build a full car like that for the purpose of tearing half of it apart to be approved by the emissions *****.

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
Thanks for posting that bmx, I was considering the 35r also but am re-considering after whats been said, @ turbomaniac why do you suggest using a different head-gasket? Whatever will make the car run better I am open to. Bought it thinking it would help hah

Re: built b16 turbo numbers?
There's some very misinformed people in here. I have an s366 with a divided .91 housing on one of our twin scroll manifolds. My motor is 83mm ,8.5:1, stock port head with itr cams. On e85, I'm seeing 28# by around 5400rpms. I'm revving to a conservative 9200 right now. The car is still making power there. Turning it higher would definitely help make more power. Either way that's almost 4000rpms of full boost. That's far from dyno queen territory. Y'all are talking about a 61mm lol. It's not 1997. Things have changed.
