Default Budget Supercharger setup?

I've been looking into Supercharging my B16A for a while now.. and was wondering where I should look to buy something in the 1000-1500 dollar range?

I glanced at a few websites, and noticed that brand new JRSC's for B16's run upwards 2000.. So I'm guessing used is the way to go.

Would buying a used JRSC be a good idea?

Thanks~

You can get the supercharger setup for that price, but you have to remember to save extra for a new clutch, tuning, exhaust, injectors, EMS, etc...

For the money and future possibility of upgrading a turbo setup would be a much better investment...

Are those items required? Or just nice to have with a supercharged setup.

I'm not looking to do anything but daily driving, mind you.

You absolutely MUST tune it, the stock clutch will last for a little while depending on the power you make, you WILL NEED larger than stock injectors, and a header/exhaust combo is going to let the engine breathe out better = more power...

If you're going to cheap out or simply dont have the money to do it right, dont waste your time because it will turn into a nightmare. Also, a cheap turbo setup can be had for about the same price...food for thought. IMO turbo setups are the way to go...

I'm not into big horsepower setups by any means, in fact I really don't want much more than over 200 whp to be honest.. I'd just like a more torque-ish feel to my B16, and by any means I don't plan on "cheaply" doing it, but also on the same page I don't want to spend all kinds of money.

As I stand, I've already got a decent exhaust/header combination going for me.. and I'm sure I could find some injectors, along with a tune..

So back to the original questions - is buying a used JRSC going to be a bad idea? What kind of things go wrong with JRSC's that I should be worried about? Will I spend more money fixing a really messed up used JRSC, or buying a brand new one.

Buying a used JRSC is not a bad idea...just make sure everything is in good condition and you have all the parts. Be sure to spend the money on a good tune and good set of injectors. If you skimp on that step, you're inviting problems...

To make yet another plug for turbo setups, you can get torque from them too, you just have to tailor your setup towards quick spool. Also, dont kid yourself into thinking that 200whp is going to suffice...once you have a certain amount of power, you'll want more.

(thanks for all the help, by the way)

When, and if I decide to buy a JRSC (new or used), what kind of parts will come with it? How do I check if they are in working order or not? Would there be any way to test a supercharger

As far as turbos go.. I'm not really interested.. Never have really been a big fan of the noises they make, to be honest. I know it kind of sounds silly, but - I'd like to be discreet with my means of power, and you only really hear a supercharger when you mash the pedal on the floor.. Plus if I ever do decide to do ANY kind of daring driving with my car, it will be on an auto-cross course, where instant power is a plus .

You seem to think a supercharger will give you instant tourq. Have you actully put a turbo dyno print out side by side with a supercharger print out? Do that and tell me what makes more tourq and does it sooner in the power band.
