Default BOV question: Easy

I just finished my turbo install, and fired it up.. it ran pretty well..
manifold smoked a bit, and the stopped...

All the while, I noticed that at idle, the Vortech BOV I have is wide open.
Is this right?

I'm guessing it's sensing a vacuum, so it's opening? And then when it reaches
a preset BOOST level, it opens? Is this the right thinking?

Should I have a vacuum line connected to the BOV?

I just went over the DRAG kit, and it doesn't talk about running a line to the BOV?
Is that port on the BOV meant for a boost controller?

Should I just not hook it up?

Yes, you should have a vacuum line hooked up to the BOV. That's what the port on the BOV is for.

I'm really confused then.

I have it hooked up on a tee off of the vacuum line that runs to the factory FPR.
This is the same line that is connected to the wastegate boost port.. (As per instructions on both the Revhard installation, and DRAG installation)

When it's idling... the BOV is open... when I turn the car off, the BOV closes..

I haven't taken it to a boost condition yet.. but I'm kinda worried I have something hookd up wrong.

sounds like you hooked it up right. It may be just the way the Vortech works, I'm not sure. Best thing to do is just go test drive it.

The BOV should not be open when idling. The BOV should only be opened while shifting or braking and mostly only under boost conditions (it does open slightly in vacumm conditions, well, mine does).

If it opens under regular idle conditions and STAYS open then the spring in it isn't strong enough for the vacumm that your motor creates... they should be able to give you a stronger spring.

Well, I test drove it today, and it works great. It's open (slightly) in idle, but closes
when boost sets in.

Vortech is pretty loud... but sounds more or less just like GT3

No... Just that the sound is quite similar to the sound of the BOV in GranTurismo3..
