Default BOV Carbon Build Up

Hey guys, sorry if this has been discussed, but i tried searching.

I recently purchased a used HKS SSQ BOV for my rb25det set up in my s13.

Going to get it installed at the end of this month, and just bought the recirculating kit for it and the proper little hoses, anyways.
It has been brought to my attention that there is a bit of carbon residue inside this BOV> I stick a Q tip in there and pull it out to find out that its a bit dirty with a light touch of grease and carbon.

Now first i though "well thats okay i'll just wipe what i can off and use it," but this is a pretty important piece in my boost set up so i dont wanna skimp out. How do i clean this thing properly so that i can flush out the remaining carbon inside, or is it even necessarily? remember its only just a bit its not like there are chunks residing inside.

Also i was wondering how the hell does carebon delevope inside a BOV, doesnt clean air flow through it while its attacthed to the Hot Pipe? Im Curious

Thanks guys
