Boosting Stock B16A2
So I've been perusing through the forced induction threads, and decided I might want to turbo my Si.
I want to run as close to stock as possible (aside from maybe a set of GSR cams). I do already have aftermarket exhaust, intake, and headers.
Is it possible to get a setup up and going for under a grand? 10 psi is all I'd be running tops. I don't want anything too crazy because I want longevity and resale value.
Thanks.

no not really possible... and if you do some how i'll be with knock off parts and thier goes the reliability/ longevity...
if you are planning on being that cheap about the whole thing i wouldn't even do it...

Well, is it more cost effective to find all the parts individually? Or just to get them all in one kit?
I just can't see spending like 3.5k on a GReddy kit or anything like that...

piecing together is ussually the best, and most cost effective but if u dont want the hassle of that buy a turbo kit
boosted my b16a around $1400 but the kit was used it was a revhard t3/to4 57 trim turbo kit and i used a friends basemap that was turned for that setup ran 13.6 @ 103mph on 7 lb
i got my garret t3 svo turbo at a junkyard by me for 15$ and its in beautiful shape the turbine spins like its a new ball bearing turbo. . . . i would def. recommend taking your time with your build and go to the junkyard more often! : )
reliable kit for under a grand is impossible. im piecing together my own kit now and the total cost in parts is gonna cost me around 1300... then i still need to tune. also if u want reliability i would boost 10 psi. its possible but alot for a stock block. 7 or 8 would be the safest and still quick
It's not the pressure that blows motors, it's the horsepower. So, you're wrong.
Secondly, you won't need the header(one bank of cylinders, one head) or the intake. Greddy compared to alot of the other companies is trash IMO. I made over 400whp on a $3800 PeakBoost kit. The Greddy kit can't make that, at all.
Doing a turbo setup cheap is a bad idea. Once you get everything, you'll still have to pay to have it installed and tuned. Do some reading in the F/I section, and learn. Save up a bit more and do it right the first time. You'll be glad you did.

I personally am a fan of the greddy kit. Its not designed to make 400whp and I don't think the stock engine and especially the stock drivetrain could handle that kind of power. With the greddy kit you can bolt on reliable power.
Save up for a good turbo kit. Piecing together a quality kit is a lot of time, and barely any savings in the end. I also went with Peakboost for it's quality and big power for the future plans of my motor. With a .6 bar spring tuned on Hondata S200b, I ran 12.93 at 114.2mph on BFG drag radials/open diff in my full interior Daily EG. All I had for fuel was RC 440cc saturated injectors and a Walbro 255lph fuel pump. On top of that I was running a small Apexi N1 exhaust (holding back power). Greddy is cool for city driving since the turbo is so damn tiny, but if you want real power, go with something like Peakboost or Full Race who include a Garrett T3/t4 57trim or bigger.
note: Peakboost turbo kits are going for $2900 for B/D series engines these days.

I don't mean to come off like an ***, but you have alot of reading and learning ahead of you.
If you dont wanna pay for a peakboost get a Treadstone. I know a few people running there kits on scions. There kit is like $1800~ Plus the cost of a BOV, IDK about peakboost, but REVhard uses a FMU which you could pick up a fuel pump and FMU and have a whole kit for abour $2300. Just a thought. Which i would go with a Hondata if you have a tuner close.
treadstone is an alright kit. i dislike their manifolds. and i wouldnt recommend a fmu at all lol. if your gonna be boosting 10 lbs, i would look into injectors (size depending on fuel your using) and a walbro 255.

to the OP go to homemadeturbo.com your more likely to find help around what you want to spend there
most guys on here have AT LEAST 1K in there turbo alone
Yeah, totally right on with this one. Have you even thought the fact that boost is crack!! haha. There's a lot that goes into it. Trust. Maybe if you got yourself a good turbo for cheap and you somehow are a really good fabricator/welder and you made all your own plumbing..? Plus you gotta think about fuel, even at 10psi bro
