Boosted No VTEC!!!!
so I just turboed my gsr about a month ago and Ive been trying to figure out why I cant get vtec to engage I have a converted p06 and a p28 and nethier of them will engage vtec its tuned on crome and vtec is engaged on the chip..Vtec worked just fine before the turbo kit all the sensors vtec checks are pluged in and I have no check engine light. The only thing I can think of is that I t'd the oil feed line off the oil pressure senor and that because of that maybe its not seeing the pressure it needs to engage..we have tryed the chip in the p06 and the p28 and nothing its a p30 map which is a b16 map so it supports vtec and im just stumped..
the thing is is vtec worked fine before the turbo install and the only thing we touched during the install that has anything to do with vtec was we t'd the oil pressure sensor to run the turbo feed line. Also the guy that tuned it disabled the knock sensor and ive been reading that the ecu needs input from the knock sensor to run vtec is this true?
It is very simple, check for 12+ volts to the solenoid on the dyno during a pass, if the solenoid is getting signal but vtec doesn't work the issue is mechanical.

Yeah disable vtec under 20mph so vtec should work when reving it
does your temp gauge work ?
How do you know vtec isn't working ? Harder to hear and feel vtec with a turbo

Temp gauge wouldn't matter... there are two coolant temperature sensors, one for the gauge and one for the ECU. Gauge readings have no indication that the temp sensor for the ecu is working properly. The temp sensor for the ECU is what actually will cause VTEC to not engage, if you have not disabled "VTEC coolant temp check".
I know vtec isnt engaing because one I dont hear it at all and for two my car doesnt want to go past 5800 which is where vtec engaes in a gsr also thats where the chip is set for it to engage..and ive been in a turbo vtec and while it wasnt as noticable feeling but you can still hear it enage I also have a 3" cat back with no cat so im sure i would here...
Test the solenoid test all the sensors they could get ohm'd out with a simple meter. Test all conections going from the oil pressure sensor to the ecu. Make sure continuity is strong. Put 12v to the vtec solenoid it should click. If you have an eld make sure all the conections are good there. Vtec wont engage if it sees no load on the motor.
Thats a good idea ill put 12v to it in the am and see what happens..also the guy above me is right when my car hits 5800 it loses a bunch of power it just acts like it doesnt want to go any higher and I mean right where vtec should engage is where this happens..I just cant get past how it worked just fine before the turbo install and now it doesnt I didnt touch anything that had to do with vtec except the oil pressure sensor it would be a wierd coincidence that a sensor is bad now..Is it possiable I damaged the oil pressure sensor when taking it off to put the T there?
Its pissible you pinched a wire or the pins in the connector it self. Whats happening is where vtec is supposed to be engageing its still on the lower lobe of the cam.
Just start eliminating problems start with whatever you changed during the install of the turbo. Put it back to stock if you have to.

yeah tomarrow im going to put 12v to it manually and if i do hear clicking them i will go through them one by one till I figure it out..thanks for all the help everyone
So I got vtec to engage today I had changed my vss after the turbo install and the one I got came off a automatic civic and while my speedo did work it most have sent a different signal to the ecu cause when I put a manual one that I had with no pin it worked fine it hessitates when vtec engages for a second but then it takes off and while its not as loud I can still hear it open up some..so a little tunning and im sure the hesitation will go away!!!we never tuned vtec cause it wasnt engaging
I honestly didnt think that would matter because my speedo was working fine however Im not sure the problem is fixed it does hesitate at 5800 and I just found out that vtec engages at 4400 and the IABs open at 5800 and in crome vtec is set to 5800 if I lower it to 4400 will that help? Also why is it hesitating at 5800 I have the IABs zip tied open and the selinoid unpluged?what else can I do I have hooked up an led to the vtec is working
