turbo XS boost controller $80 and it does the job quite well
if you go higher boosts, profec B, apex AVCR

I use the AVC-R myself. Complicated little bastard I tell ya, but it's got more little features than you can shake a stick at! Even has a limited range of dataloging. Not bd but in the real world, if all you wanna do is set boost and fogret, go with the Profec B. If you like 100 features, hald of which you won't even know of.. AVC-R

My wife has an 02 GTI 1.8T, the VW guys I've talked with do not recommend using a boost controller with the 1.8T's since the computer controls the boost. You are better off chipping your ecu. There is a type of boost control for the VW's that you splice into the ECU wiring that modifies the boost signals but I can't remember the name of it. Do some more research before you purchase a boost controller that you later find out is useless in your application.

For the price you can get a chip that will give you a nice tune to go along with the additional boost. Thats what I would do if I were you.
