Default Blue Smoke, please help...i'm stumped

Okay, the motor has just been rebuilt. At first the car was blowing a smoke screen at idle, but I found that there was NO PCV valve. So I put one in there and the problem was solved.
Now the car doesn't blow any smoke at idle, but will OCCASIONALLY blow blue smoke while driving. I'll be driving down the street, and there will be NO smoke, then later it will blow quite a bit of smoke, then back to little or no smoke.
I did notice that the oil pressure gauge had strange readings. Sometimes it will be at around 23 then when I accelerate it would shoot up to 80. I never went above 3000 rpm.
The motor has new rings, new valve seals, and a new turbo. So I've pretty much ruled those out. What could be cause the problem? Oil pump? I'm stumped. Please help.

speedworks: JE rings on 9:1 JE pistons

D-Man: the shop was supposed to check out my whole head, I'll call them tomorrow and see what they say about the valve guides.

Any other ideas? I don't understand what's making the oil pressure shoot up and down like that. And sometimes, the car doesn't smoke at all.

I'm not sure. Should I just keep driving the car and see what happens?

How long have you been driving it since the motor's been rebuilt? For nearly 2K miles after my rebuild, I was puffing smoke of all colors.

Now after about 6K miles, it's doing fine. Do understand that JE pistons differ from SRP in that JE's are considered more of a "race" piston. They have smaller tolerances so they allow more blowby when you're NOT driving like an idiot.

Do you notice that sometimes the smoking stops after driving hard or driving for a long time?

Well....if it's still in it's break in period, disregard that last statement and don't drive hard yet.

I've probably only driven the car for a mile since it's been rebuilt . So, should I just keep driving it and see what happens? The fluxuating oil pressure is worrying me.

your oil pressure hot should be between 20-30 idling hot. at anything above 2000 rpms it should be above 60 pounds. what oil are you using to break it in

sometimes when I start it up it will be at 80 then after I drive it for a while it will sit between 20-30 at idle. above 2000 it goes between 60-70. I am using penzoil 10w-30 now, I plan on switching to Mobil 1 synthetic after the break-in.

i recomend using non detergent 30 weight oil for the first 200 miles. this will help the rings seat faster. your oil pressure looks to be normal.

i have the exact same problem, it sometimes let out blue smoke, 2500 kn(1500mi) on rebuilt engine(zc), je piston and rings, i burn about 1/3 of a liter every 600km(400mi) just went to the engine rebuider and he said to run it hard the next 1000km to try to seat the rings in.so i,ll see how that goes, i dont have the turbo on yet but plan to once i know its ok,

which pennziol did you use? Ive seen the exact same thing on other cars that were broken in on pennzoil... just run it for like 300 miles, it goes away.

Thanks for replies guys. I just put 15 miles on the motor today and everything seems fine so far. The smoke is basically gone now, but now the car idles at around 1200 - 1600. So now it's time for me to figure that one out (vaccum lines, etc.). I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks.

Well, this morning I changed out the plugs and took the car for a spin and there was little to no smoke. So I got back to my house and checked the oil. There was a little too much oil in there so I drained some of it out. I ran the car again and the smoking was virtually gone. After 15 miles of driving (5 mile intervals), I haven't seen any smoke. So it seems like the problem is gone...for now at least.
