like the title says: blue smoke even though leakdown and compression are good. First noticed it yesterday.

Could PCV routing have anything to do with it?

I'm also getting blow by oil leaking onto my injector wiring cover and IM where I have the valve cover breather hooked up.

Maybe blow by getting into the intake manifold causing it to burn oil and causing smoke?

Any suggestions?

Maybe a catch can will fix this problem?

Setup: boosted B16A (tuned of course) .5 BAR with stock internals

 

A catch can will work if the problem is too much pressure in your crankcase. Check your turbo seals, you may be leaking from the turbine into your exhaust.

 

A catch can is a good investment for any boosted application.

Also, blue smoke (oil) could also be from seals on the turbo that are on their way out... keep that in mind.

 

How do I check turbo oil seals?

 

Does the car smoke at idle or if you rev it while sitting still? I would remove the manifold so you deleted the turbo and see if you still have blue smoke. What turbo do you have anyway?

 

Car smokes at idle and when I rev standing still. It seems to get a little better once I get driving. It is the worst when I first start it up.

So when you say "delete the turbo" you mean to just let it run with open exhaust ports, and look for smoke? There has to be a better way.

I have a Drag turbo kit which was supposed to come with a turbonetics turbo, but instead they sent me this knockoff brand called "Master Power." I wasn't very happy about it, but they have since gone out of business.

 

Nothing wrong with master power. not really a knockoff like u think.
Just pull off your downpipe and check for oily residue on the turbine wheel. Pull off your charge pipe where it hooks up to the throttle body and look for oil in them as well.
A choked crankcase can cause oil to run through the turbo seals as well.
I dont think I would want to run any PCV system with a boosted application though. If you are still running a PCV you need to remove it immediatley.
Try a bigger oil drain, and an oil restrictor. Always seems to solve alot of problems.

 

What is an oil restrictor? Oil drain?

Remove the PCV? There is a "performance" mechanic who says that I need to get an oil catch can. Is that what you're talking about?

I'll take a look at the piping tomorrow (hopefully) and see if there is any oil residue there.

Sounds like valve seals. Does it still smoke quite a bit while driving though?

 

i would like to know too, my car has simlar problem but white smoke. i was thinking about the valve stem seal too cause of the start-up white smoke. my car smoke the most when you full throttle and when decerlerating for a few seconds and getting on the throttle.

valveseals or turboseals are the most common problems that yield the side effects you have.

same thing happened to me a few months ago, it turned out to be the turbo seals

Yes, I couldn't agree with myself more.

 

Most likely valve stem seals or turbo seals. My bet is valve stem seals though.

 

so most of you seem to be pointing toward the valve stem seals. How is this diagnosed?

As a side note, I am noticing progressively decreased fuel economy as well. Went from averaging about 28mpg down to around 22-23. Also, I have noticed decreased performance, and sporadic, occasional lag/bogging (detonation???) that seems to happen instantaneously, almost as if one of the cylinders is missing or firing at the wrong time or maybe due to excess oil in the combustion chamber causing excessively high compression and possibly detonation???

What do you want pics of the engine bay for?


FYI, this thing is not going to be seeing any boost until I fix this issue...
