They are Not at all the same. The first "blue box" was the pre-programmed unit that came with the kit to allow for CARB legality and eliminate the need for check valves or "Missing Link". It was nice, but it didn't allow for growth, and had a tendency to have a rough idle on many applications. The new Greddy kits now come w/ a PRE-PROGRAMMED E-manage to come with the kit in order to allow for those that need to stay CARB legal can contine to do so. The system is much more improved than the previous "blue Box" because though it is a piggyback and not a true standalone, it allows the owner to finally tune the car for more boost, better ignition and fuel timing, and at the same time, have no need to worry about chip burning, or a lot of extra components. You can either interface it with a laptop, or use the Profec E0-1 boost controller. The system really deserves more credit than it actually gets. If you've seen UTEC from TurboXS, and unichip, it is similar to this.

The only downside is that it only allows for injectors 150% over stock for, say a GS-R (about 660cc) but it will still work w/ your current map sensor w/o the need of a different ECU and a 3rd of the cost of AEM EMS. Also, tuning w/ this system is not the most available depending upon where you live. But this week I assisted in tuning one only 1 of 6 350Z twin turbo setups. Even w/ light tuning it was able to push over 369whp / 336ft.lbs on only 6psi..
