Default Block Guard or NO Block Guard on B18b

Hi, I am currently building a b18b with Ross pistons 81.5 and Eagle H beam rods. Now, to finish my bottom, I need your comments about blockguard. Unfotunately, I cannot afford darton sleeves so my choice tend toward those block guard. Are they good, would you recomment it ? If you do, wich brand old you chose, are STR any good ?? anything better ? I am planning on running 12 psi to start with and later on going to 20+ psi.

Thanks

I chose to put one on mine. Boost is still a month out, but the engine runs great....no overheating or anything like that. It just adds a slight amount of security. They cost $120 or so, and as long as you get GE or Raceengineering or another well known brand...not a cheap knock off that will resitrict coolant flow. B18b, can hold quite a bit of boost on their stock sleeves, if tuned well. 12-15psi isnt not unreasonable, with an expierenced tuner, and no sleeves or block guard. My suggestion is....if the block gaurd is installed correctly, get it (machine block guard/tap in, block guard in, then hone cylinders

I've used a blockguard with every turbo setup i've run and not once have i had a problem with the bottom end. Also, I've never had any kind of cooling problem that a lot of people say is associated with the blockguard.

Some people may say that with an 81.5mm bore the sleeves will be too weak and to just go ahead and sleeve it. I disagree...I ran 81.5mm wisecos for over a year making 325 to the wheels never had one problem.

Pick up either a golden eagle or nuformz blockguard. I've used both with no issues.

I've had an STR blockgaurd welded 1/2" from the top of my block for about 3 months now and 2 1/2 of those months were turbo'd. i haven't had one cooling issue at all. if it's done right like everything else, it's bound to work like it suppose to just my .02
