Re: better tranny for boost (delsolLs-t)
tighter gearing will always lead to better acceleration. So GSR wins over LS. Discrepancies arise when you actually start thinking about your gearing combined with the size of your wheels and what the car is being used for.

Re: better tranny for boost (SpoolinLS)
i always thought that the longer gearing was much better for boost since you would stay in boost longer as opposed to constantly shifting and having to respool. but guess i was wrong.

Re: better tranny for boost (boostin b16)
its not the point of making more power.. its more of being constant then losing time at shifts...if a person has to shift less that means.. the times are more constant...plus it wasnt his question of which tranny would put out more power... he said whats better for boost.. im only talking by experience.. ive had a b16 turbo in a crx i could never really get the full boost potential out of my b16 tranny and ive ran my friend with basicly the same set up.. cept that he had a LS tranny in his b16 turbo...and everytime i shift i would always fall behind

Re: better tranny for boost (jinxproof99)
I like the LS tranny for the LS motor; but I prefer to run it w/ at LEAST a 4.40 FD or a 4.785 would be nice. LS tranny is nice for gear spread if u have a wide powerband then use the short fd to keep the gears small.. only for LS/b20 though.
For vtec motors where peak torque is always after 6k u don't want alot of gear spread. U want to keep ur rev's as high as possible. You wan't the closest ratio'd gears and u want the shortest FD that will get u ur top speed. LS tranny is horrible for a vtec motor cause 1) it forces u to spend time below peak torque 2) slaughters acceleration cause it makes the gears long as hell 3) 0.966 4th w/ 4.26fd will allow for 140mph with stock redline on stock tires in 4th gear. talk about only using 3 gears in the 1/4 that would SUCK!

if you fell behind when you shifted and you did not pull back when he shifted then there are two possibilities here: 1) his car is making more power than yours, or 2) he is a better driver than you!

i am NOT getting involved in another discussion regarding ls tranny vs b16. we have a search button and i suggest that not only "delsolLs-t", the originator of this thread, use it, but "romeo619romeo" should use it(search button)as well.
1. the ls tranny is NEVER better in an NA set up. ever.
2. ls tranny is *** except for top end runs. no one in there right mind would willingly use that tranny for drag racing/street racing. even with a shitty 6800 rev limit you would at the very least change the final drive in the ls tranny.......but i wouldn't even do that. i would get springs and retainers and run a gsr tranny at the very LEAST.
do your homework and you will learn.
