stay with 15's, just get fatter tires.

no, not in your case. while you'll see some cars with huge wheels its not practical on a civic/integra because of the additional rotational mass, the width of the wheel you're able to run and the overall tire/wheel diameter.

a 15 x 7 wheel is in my opinion ideal...with drag radials...etc...or just falken azeni's for the street which do pretty well under most driving conditions. to run a 16 x 7 or 17 x 7/7.5 just means you'll be running a larger tire with a small sidewall....which hurts traction and increases the amount of weight you have at all 4 corners.

Larger rim mean thinner sidewall. The thinner the sidewall the more wheelhop you will have. Wheelhop makes for really crappy traction, take it from me. Just my .02

you will have more tractoin, but at the cost of more weight/slower acceleration because of the larger diameter, it will take longer to accerlate it.

YOU WILL HAVE BETTER TRACTION sence most 17inch rims can run fatter tires. more tire on the ground=more traction. As for wheel hop ya there might be some but if you can afford a turbo and some ssr's you probley can aford some struts, traction bars etc.... also the smaller side wall will help the handles. oh and I have had 15,16, and 17 inch rims on my integra

Better traction? most 17's I see advertised has a 7inch width which is not that wide compared to stock 6.5 some hondas come with and you cannot run wider tires because the rim will be big already, so when you increase the width you will rub all-day everyday. Back to the subject, We all know you want to run the blinging 17inches because you won't take hard facts. I know that anything over a 15 will only hurt our torqueless wonders which is why I have 13's for the track and 15's for the daily. Go ahead and pick up those 17's because you never said you wanted to be faster, you just said you wanted traction and those will solve your problem. Just don't expect to be faster at the same time.

You can get 15 wheels in 7.5" width if you didnt know. Thats as fat as any 17" wheel u can run on a honda. A larger diamater wheel would add more overall and moves it further out from the center, which multiples the weight problem. The only thing a larger wheel would do for traction (assuming your using an apples to apples comparision) would be to reduce torque applied to the ground as it acts like a gear.

the traction has nothing to do with the size tire he can fit, its because it takes longer to accelerate the rim because of the increase in diameter. i would work on traction other ways instead of "slowing your car down" to get traction.

No one said anything about the size of the tire, I think people said that he would rub and that width is also offered in 15's, but we all know this is going in one ear and out the other for him.

larger wheel will help traction for handling and are safer at higher speed because of the thinner stiffer sidewalls. The difference in overall diameter of the wheel tire package between a 15 and a 17 is actually very small especially if you go for a wide tire on the 15.

check out this chart i found in a honda book:

ohh and if i take my 17s off and put on the stock 14" steel wheels I spin the tire all day. In first gear i will get pretty much zero traction at any rpm with the 14s but with the 17s i keep traction till about 5000 rpm or so then they will break loose. Shifting to second the 14s still spin like a bitch for like half the gear but the 17s just bark then grab and the shift in the third i will get some minor spin with the 14s but again just a bark from the 17s. I'm sorry but my car is way faster without the constant wheel spin of the small diameter wheels even if the 17s weigh a bit more and are a tiny bit larger in diameter.

in my opinion way less wheel spin out wieghs slighty less diameter and weight.

stay with 15x7's and run BFG Drag radials in the front and some Falken Azenis in the back for the stiff side wall. play with spring rates(stiffer in the rear) and try adjusting the shocks, that is if you have a setup that allows for it.

width has NOTHING to do with diameter. but great chart.

One of the wheel companies out there should be listening and offer a 16x8 in the 4x100 size. People with larger brakes have a hard time deciding on whether to give up stopping power for traction. I have the 12.2" Wilwood kit (only $600), and 16" TE37's clear...only if they were 16x8 insted of 16x7.

I know FB offers a smaller brake kit....but there are a lot of people out there that have the Wilwood kit bolted on.

Keep the 15's, get some 225/50 BFG's, and be done with it.

From what I have is:

15inch Stock 96 6spoke alloy wheels. (14.5 lbs)

17inch Velox vx6r (14.5lb)

--------Comparing the size overal with tires, height to height.. They both equal out, since the 15's got thicker tires and the 17's has thinner. Which are pretty close to the same overall diameter--------

Example #1
At the track I hitted 14.7 and 14.8 on both wheels! Constant, from a standpoint. The 17's has lower torque jump but stronger top end.
The 15's got a grip and a lot of JUMP and pull on torque..

But some reason no significant different results from both. (but for the question I think bigger wheel is better traction) It doesnt sit there and spin out as much as the smaller wheels..

Think lowrider wheels? Why does those weeako cars, burn out madness? Because it requires more less power to push smaller wheels.. But will require to push more power to the axle with largers wheels... ( Either way.. Refer back to Example #1)
