In stock form... none.

In built form... all of them when built properly

I have no idea about d-series, but... Full-Race used a D16A6 w/ stock sleeves in their Pink car and put down ~460WHP? .. They have to have some reason behind using that setup.

If a6, then it was an a6 block because they used a very worked d16y8 head from headgames on it. And they spent ALOT of dyno time getting it there.

I have noticed that the a6 is quite sturdy, anyone have input as to why this is?

I think the sleeves are stronger than the Z6 or Y8.
That is the block I am using in my H/C all motor setup.

Stay clear of the Y8 blocks as the oil pumps in them are sub standard at high revs.

Ugh, I want to smack the engineer that moved the dipstick over to them also... so annoying when doing a timing belt.

Yeah I'm guessing that's probably just what they had laying around lol.

That's why I boosted my D16, it was already in my car.

D16Z6, I had great success with that motor. It's my favorite little powerhouse!

the blocks are all about the same; very little changed over the years.
the cranks are the same story; they're interchangable even for the obd2 generation though things get wierd w/ oil pumps and pans
rods are the same
oil pumps all suck equally though the z6 one thats on a z6 will work the best; the obd2 ones are the ones that suck. D pumps are really crap though, they need much more oil supply for a turbo motor.
Heads; they're all different between the obd generations; obd0 the heads were the same between the d15 and 16 while the d16a6 had a better cam; obd1 the d16z6 is by far the bets D16 head out there; it flows well; works well; makes great top end; has good midrange; you can't go wrong. The obd2 heads aren't bad but imo the obd1 z6 is better.

all in all buy a d16z6; throw some pistons and rods in it; and buy a new oil pump and have it modified.

D16A6 has the best head. Y8's divider is so far back it induces turbulence, and ported it might flow as well as stock Z6, which in turn will never outflow an A6 with equivalent sized valves.

A6 or Z6 bottom end, there isn't much difference save 0.020" deck height.

Turbo selection is, as always, dependant on what you want by way of spool and power.

Don't kick yourself. Maybe you didn't beat it hard enough? It seems like the more I beat my motor the stonger it becomes, kinda like Obi-Wan...

A6s have chamferred journal cranks (some early Z6s supposedly have chamferred cranks as well) A6s also have steel girdles opposed to OBD-1 and newer all aluminum girdles... That's why they have the best bottom ends. That's not much to **** your pants over.

Y8 oil pumps are crap out of the box, the pre-OBD-2 pump has been successfully put on a Y8 bottom end, search for mike belmen's threads, he made a post in the technical forum about it.

Y8s have the prettiest chambers, but the intake port leaves a lot to be desired for performance. Best 'out of the box' head is the P06 casting, which is in Z6s, D15Bs...

Bisi used an A6 head on his drag car, they have smaller ports, smaller valves, bigger chambers... the only good thing I can say about them is that there's no VTEC (which is good for some people like me) So unless you're planning on welding or doing other serious modification on the A6 head the Z6 is way better. Oh yeah and the D15B7 head is essentially the same as the D16A6 head, different cam.

Then there's the DOHC head the A1 which has a headbolt 4mm off (this can be changed easily) it has huge ports to work with and the awesomeness of adjustable intake and exhaust overlap, but the ball mounted rockers are **** and only good to 7500rpm (yay!) the chambers are also pretty huge which sucks...

The best d series, well that depends on how much money you have to spend... if you're on a budget then just slap a Z6 in there and be done with it. If you have the scrilla, get an A6 block and slap an A1 head on, weld the chambers, the ports, and get shaft rockers made. unfortunately i don't think anyone tinkering with D series has this kind of change, supposedly Endyn actually did exactly what I just typed out, the head alone is said (quoted by Josh at Endyn) to be worth 5 grand. I haven't seen pictures of the shaft rockers but I saw the welded chambers and they look the hotness.

dohc d16 is the best for a turbo setup makes good power and you can use all d series parts just need some mods on some of them.

There's really no such thing as the "best" d-series to boost. They are all very similar.

What's this about a d16y8 head being ported only flowing marginally better than a d16z6 head, any truth to this?
