Default best cam for power

so im boosting my stock gsr, and plan on building the bottom end and head later on down the road. and figured id go ahead and knock cams out of the picture now. ive heard type r cams are the route alot of people go and make alot of power with, but i had been looking at crower cams and JUN cams to use. anyone have any experience with cams to help me out?

Depends on your WHP goal & setup, but both OEM GSR and ITR cams work well.

OEM GSR cams 200-300 hp
OEM ITR/CTR cams 300-400 hp

I love my blox pro 1's. But unless you have dual valve springs and titanium retainers and an LMA upgrade they aren't recommended. Even with the type R cam's I would want to have valve train and an LMA upgrade. So until you have the money to upgrade the valve trains and LMA's I would go with GSR's.

As far as OEM, I'd say ITR. GSR cams make good power as well. I've seen ITR cams in 600-700hp cars, so they work.

For aftermarket, the Skunk2 Pro1s seem to be the way to go. Of course, you'll need everything else that goes with them headwise.

I've got stage 3 turbo cams from Brian Crower, and they work great.

Comp cams makes an excellent turbo grind. I don't remember the part number but it was the more aggressive of the 2. We made great power with them.

300whp, there's no need for a cam other than a GS-R. These other big NA cams like the Pro1s are for much bigger applications in which they are warranted.

Save your money, put it towards good turbo parts and tuning time.

gsr's would be good enough, but the newer itr's/ctr's are like the best factory cams for bseries. theres quite a bit of difference between them...and price too.

then might as well do valve springs and retainers too. i would recommend supertechs.

gsr cams worked good for me. Friends of mine made up to/over 900 whp on them The newer itr cams have more valve over lap than the older ones. You don't want alot of over lap.

thats funny. so when im running 1.5:1 backpressure or 1:1(doubt it) i think im going to want the over lap because the engine is behaving like an N/A

lol thats is funny.

with some wicked na cams you prolly will have some overlap.

but ive seen some cars that are running the itr's/ctr's and have next to no overlap.

umm i didnt see any dyno ??? i just seen some guy running his mouth

also i dont think you understand what i said in my post. if your car have TONS OF backpressure then you DO NOT want overlap (pretty common sense). if your car has LITTLE backpressure TO CROSSOVER the YOU DO want cams that have overlap because the car is behaving like an N/A motor. what happens to N/A motors when you stick in cams that have a little overlap ?

ok i dont understand.

sounds to me like na cams are the way to go if you can avoid overlap, i see people saying that turbo cams arent that aggresive as far as lift and duration.

anyways, back to the main point, itr's/ctr's/s2 pro 1's/blox b's and even gsr's seem like a decent choice for cams. whether you want to argue about overlap talk to the expert, tony413.

turbo cams are usually made for cars that come turbo form the factory. they usually blow on turbo honda's. also you missed the point yet again large N/A cams are going to have overlap unless you degree out the overlap.
