balance shaft ? before drop the engine back in
Hey guys. Im putting my engine back together and I have my head on and put the timing and balance shaft belts on. Everything is checking into tolerance, but I have a question about my balance shafts. I can grab the pulley on both shafts and pull them a small amount out and then back in. The distance is minimal just enough to make a clicking noise. Both shafts move about the same distance and have the same clicky sound. Is this common or is it out of spec. If it is out of spec I can just remove the belt right.

h22? ive done some before and after dyno stuff removing the belt and picked up nearly 10whp.
i think there is a little bit of play on the pulleys..not 100% sure though, havnt done an H timing belt that used the balance shaft in a while.

Re: balance shaft ? before drop the engine back in (Turbo-charged)
actually it's a f22a1, but they have the same setup. Hmmm 10whp, are you serious... that could possibly be nice , but how much vibration do you pick up from not having them on?

beleive it or not, absolutely none. you wont be able to tell a difference.....or atleast i cant on the probably 20+ h22's ive done. my personal h22 vibrated a bit, but it had solid steel engine mounts, so it obvoiusly would have vibrated even with the balance shaft belts lol
havnt done much with the f22 stuff, but like you said its pretty much all the same crap. who knows if the hp gain would be the same. the car we did the back to back test on was relatively stock....I/H/E i beleive.
