Default B20B blockguard complete.

Got a call from my mechanic telling me that he'd finished the blockguard install in my B20B. Here's some pictures here for you guys to look at..

The blockguard is made out of aluminium, 9mm thickness.

Sorry if the pictures are unclear, but there is plastic wrapped around the block.

He said it took him a good 3 hours to get the right fitment & drill the holes according to the gasket. Originally he was going to cut out the part where the cylinders meet up with eachother, but seeing how all the boosted b20b's here cracked at that point, I told him to just drill a hole around that area, as I wanted the blockguard to make those points strong too. He said the fitment is very tight. I hope it works.

Did he hone the cylinders after the install? Does he know for sure that they are perfectly round?
I know somebody that had a blockguard made for his b20 and it apperantly oblonged the cylinders...just a thought.

I've used a blockguard in my B18C, and in my D16Y8 when my Civic used to be turbo, and never ever had any overheating problems. I think its just from improper installations that give the "blockguard" a bad name.

Just curious, how much boost do you people think I could push on stock b20b rods/pistons. and with 84 or 84.5mm JE pistons/eagle rods (both with stock sleeves + blockguard as you can see above) - this with be running with a fully built B18C head, and a fully programmable ECU running 95 octane pump gas and 8.2:1 compression ratio..

I dunno i'd say. Most smart people are wary of those sleeves cracking. I'd say around 14~16 lbs with some good tuning and no detonation.

I had problems with my STR blockguard defelcting the top of my sleeve, if i was ever gonna use one again i would weld it in, deck the block then hone the cylinder.

is it better for a blockguard to sit at the top like that, or rest farther down? most ive seen sit about 3/4-1" down

the other blockguard I used to run in my old D16Y8 turbo was installed in the same manner as the pics in this post - never had any problems with the sleeves ever since I had the blockguard installed.
