Default B18C1 block with LS head

Hi all, first post and I’m sure there’s probably a thread about it already but I looked and couldn’t find it. I have a b18c1 block bored .030 over with eagle h beam rods and wiseco 82mm pistons. I have a fresh LS head and Brian Crowley valve springs. I need a recommendation for a good head gasket. I’ve heard great things about cometic and would obviously need an 82mm bore headgasket just not sure what thickness and the naming of them is a little funky. Thanks for any help!

so is an ls/vtec headgasket the combination I need for a b18c1 block with ls head I’m assuming? And also does anyone have any experiences with this headgasket?

From what I've read Golden Eagle uses OEM Honda gaskets I'm pretty sure and modifies them. Either way they are solid gaskets.

If I were you I would call them, explain to them what you have, and then order what they suggest.

The 800 pound Gorilla in the room is that this combination will not work !!! There is an oil passage at the rear passenger side corner of the VTEC block that provides oil pressure/volume to the VTEC circuit in the cylinder head. A non-VTEC head doesn't have this matching passage. This passage in the block will be partially exposed when you bolt the non-VTEC head on and will blast oil straight up into the air when you start the engine. You will need a way to block this passage. Hybrid gaskets are designed to be used with a non-VTEC block and a VTEC head... not the other way around. Normally, one would use the head gasket that matches the BLOCK and then make sure that the passages in the head at least somewhat match. I have never seen anyone do what you are trying to do here, so I cannot tell you for sure that it will work... even if you do block off the VTEC oil feed port in the block.

WHY do you want to use the non-VTEC head ?

The reason I want to use the non-VTEC head is cost. I already have 2 b18A1 heads and stronger valve springs, I thought everything would still work but obviously missed the oil passage issue. If the passage does not have a ton of oil pressure I could possibly block it off? I know with boost I will be creating alot of block pressure but probably only going to 15-20 psi.

Just buy a spare B18 non-vtec block or get a Vtec head

The passage has full oil pressure and is not restricted... so whatever pressure your engine makes is what comes out of this open passage when you crank up the engine. It is a teardrop shape, so you would likely have to weld it closed and then surface the block to make it work... much more elaborate, and potentially cost prohibitive, than I think you realize. I know you are trying to save $$$, but in this case, I believe you are truly asking for misery here with this plan. Sell off your built non-VTEC head, add a few bucks, and get a VTEC head and upgraded valve train. You will be glad you did.

You can find a B16 or GSR head for a few hundred bucks just look around, you're not going to be able to do anything with those non vtec heads. Why even try?

B16 or GSR head for a "few hundred bucks"? What is your idea of a few hundred bucks?

Our definition of "few hundred bucks" are wildly different.

I have a mint GSR head I've been sitting on I might sell. Thinking of just going K24 swap.
