Icon2 b18c type r transmission

ok, so I'm building a turbo b18c and I need to find a transmission. I've seen some type R lsd transmissions on ebay for like $1,300...seems ok. I just want a transmission to hold up to 500hp maybe a little more. If i bought the type r tranny would i have to buy a aftermarket differential or will that one hold? And or is it cheaper to get a gsr tranny and rebuild that? Thanks...

No. you're fine with that transimssion because of the nice 4.7 Final drive. The LSD is not optimal for turbocharging but it is better than none at all. For most street applications, the transmission will work fine for 500whp

My ls gear set with a 4.4 final does just fine on the street. this is making a bit more than 500whp though.

Yeah it works but the gearing is horrible. GSR is the way to go with an aftermarket LSD. Even an OBX LSD will work fine. Ive been running one for years without a problem.

Its not short, your just making alot of power on the street and your going through the gear quicker.

Obx diff will not work fine, I have 4 broken ones in the scrap pile. The old ones seem to be holding up but newer units break within 3000 miles. Even when they are new they have extreme run out issues. For a street car the ls gears work great with the 4.4 and a 26 tire.

I do have an older one and I've read lately that the new units aren't as good but I wonder why.

you will need to inspect and check them with a feeler gauge.

That's what i did! best investment on trans iv ever made! iv had gsr w lsd, stock gsr trans and gsr trans from mfactory i mean 4.9 fd m f 1 st 2nd gears quaife lsd but for all the money i spent im much more satisfied with a new ITR trans. no issues from syncro wear or pop outs ect.. paying for labor for assembly ect ect i spent so much on those trans in the past and in the end they all ran like **** cause you just never know how many miles or condition the trans is unless its rebuilt or new, either 5th grinded or something was not working right, so i sold the M factory race tranny i baught for $1,400 and i spent a good $4-500 to fix the issues that came up, i sold the trans and just got a new ITR trans! and i love it! smooth *** shifts! and comes with a oem LSD. my supercharged ITR motor loves it!
