Default B18b fully built bitten end

Ok so I'm here in Canada and I'm going to build a fully built b18 block for boost. I want to hot the 500whp power range on 93 octane.

So this guy has a b18b bitten end he wants to sell to me and it includes:
-hot tanked, deglazed, honed, resurfaced the deck has only (5000km)
-wiseco coated 9:1 pistons
-eagle rods
-ACL race bearings throught the whole block
-micropolished crank
-new water pump,timing belt,tensioner
-type r oil pan with a bung and return line
-1200obo

Is it worth the money to get the block then pay 1200 to get it sleeved? What sleeves should I get? I was looking into the darton wet sleeves.

I'm going to do a lsvtec. So all I need after is a vtec girdle, type r oil pump and I'm just going to use my b17 head until I can get a fully built Brian crower head?

Just start with a virgin gsr block. That would be a waste of 1200.

Well, a block and sleeving alone is over 1200... no internals

And why gsr, ls means more torque..

You would need new rings if you took the motor apart but if the bearings look OK you could reuse them although I would suggest new ones as well

And a type r pump isn't special..., all b series pumps have the same part number from ls to type r, the only thing that changes is obd1 and obd2 pumps have different numbers due to the obd3 pump having mounting provisions for the crank sensor

i love the ls crank in a gsr block. just not a true lsvtec.

what mm is the bore on the block you are buying?

Well if he buys a gsr block he has to source a good ls crank plus rods and pistons... which is wayyyyyy over 1200... the motor he posted is a much better deal if it was assembled correctly

i have seen to many "good deals" go south. spend the extra money, and don't build a fresh sleeved block around some old pistons and rods god knows what they have been through.

Well for 1200 he could pull it apart, measure everything and if it's in spec, he can re-ring it and put new bearings in and still be ahead.

I have a set of used arias pistons for my motor, but they where checked by am engine builder and a machinist and were deemed fit for use.

But you are right, some used stuff is absolute ****

*IF* the parts are good. then he still needs a ls/vtec kit and girdle.

Ok I've decided to use my old b18a block strip it apart bring it a machine shop here rebuild it with BC rods pistons and darton wet sleeves. The parts are 1255$ and labour will be 1300$ that's with upgraded wrist pins and Brian crower gave me discount and gaurenteed to handle 600+hp

you don't even need the VTEC girdle.

Please explain why you wouldn't want the extra security on your investment...

Girdle isn't really needed, I didn't use one on my last ls/vtec build and it went on to make 600+ without issue

Girdle only helps if you're revving high, which you don't need on a ls based app. Plus he won't be making enough power to justify it.

I guess I think different than most and just do it right the first time. Honda didn't use a girdle for fun, nor did erl, z10 or endyne... I'm not running one in my car but the dart block is pretty solid.

I ,mean most ls/VTEC motors, depending on turbo size really don't need to see more than 8000-8500rpm as most of the time this is where power starts to fall off... so I wouldn't bother with one.

However if I were going over 8500 then I would definite
Y consider one, but I wouldn't bother with the 3 main girdle and go straight for the full 5 main girdle like ERL sells

You can on stock parts but your gambling on nothing failing and wreaking your nice sleeved block.
