Default Which axles for high boost?

Okay...I have come to the point in my setup for some axles. Needed are ones that can handle around 500 whp. Car is a 90 civic Si hatch with a YS1 cable trans. What kind/Where/How much?

Thanks, Jason

I've heard of a company out of Florida, called J.W. Performance Transmissions. There number is 321-632-6205. It says in there ad that they're $279.48. I've heard some guys on another board that have used them and they've had good results. Don't know if they'll have your application but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I have a question about your setup. I've got a Y21 on my b20 and I'm thinking about going turbo. The only problem is that it seems like the gear ratio is so short. I'm doing like 4k at 70mph. I was just wondering if you had any probs with your turbo on that tranny. Thanks and good luck.

check out dss axles... dont know how the stage 3 axles would hold up for u but i know the atsge 5 would hold up for sure... but u have to remember... something has got to givce... if it isnt the axles, it may be the clutch... if not that... then its the tranny... its up to u what u want to blow first

MY YS1 Ls tranny is about 3250 when going 70mph. It should be a nice ratio. I dont thing that the clutch is gonna give, and I would rather the axles go then the tranny and the quaife.

You can look into a company here in FL that are called RAT axles( Racing axle technology) . I got to check em out at an event and definitely got good quality pieces. Sorry don't got a number though but try a search on yahoo. Peace,

Nick

500hp + some 26" slicks sure will break stock axles

I am planning on running either some 26x8.5x14 or some 24.5x8x13 slicks. I think that stock axles are gonna hold.

I dont have that kinda scratch for some axles.

if you do get aftermarket axles, then maybe you'll want something a little wider than 8-8.5" slicks...for 500whp, I would go with something like a 9-9.5"

I dont know if I can fit those slicks under my fenders. I dont want to have to cut them out. the smallest slick I think for 9" is 26x9x15. I think that with the extra 15", it wont fit.

thanks Paul for the response

I'd rather break axles/half shafts than a clutch or a tranny. My friend picked up some axles from the driveshaftshop.com. The first set was too short and fell out in burnout infront of the shop, and the second set broke at halftrack. Stock H22 in a CRX.

I would think that with the 26" total height of the slick, you'd be good to go... Only problem is the 14" 24's would hook as well as a 15" 26".... Sidewall and all that, k'know.

I don't know anything about axles other than the stock ones, but I think Vitek makes axles that have like two year warranty or sumthing. I dont know what that warranty entails and I am not endorsing the product, just trying to give you another option.

whats up man.....i'm going with the pro drives. i ran 25x8x13's at the end of the year and thats all i can fit without alittle cutting. i am going to run those for shake down runs, and when the cars running well, i'm running the 26's. next years gonna be fun.

Thanks Jinx. Your car is gonna be sick. What is the best time you think that I can get with those 25x8x13 slicks? I dont want to start cutting my fenders on my daily driver. Good luck man.

Ed Bergenholtz ran on driveshaft shop's axles for a full season without a single breakage, here's the pic.

Does your tranny have an LSD? I don't remember reading it. If it doesn't, big time axles are worthless. I talked to the drive shaft shop guys at Etown and I have seen there work too. I didn't go with them but I would have, they make some serious HD set-ups.

If in doubt about fitting 26" slicks under there, do what I would do. RAISE HER UP!!!

I don't believe DSS recommends anything over a 25" tall slick with their stage 3. Anything above your looking at the stage 5's which they told me they have successfully put 800 to the wheels and haven't broke yet. But your talking $$$.

you'll easily run 10's with those 25's. spinning down the track of course.
