Default AWD Civic

Ive been ******* around with the idea of doing the CRV drivetrain thing for quite some time. Now Im serious, and it WILL be done. I know theres a CRX on here thats had the conversion done, but what else is there?
I plan on making an entire custom rear assembly to aide in ground clearance/stiffness/strength. Now all I need is a totalled 5 spd AWD CRV, and Im golden...
Anyone want to share some thoughts?

Ive had a wagon before, I dont think Id be caught dead in one. But thatd be a HELL of a sleeper. 500whp in one of those, just gotta convert the driveshaft to accept the B20 trans...VERY little modification.
But whats the fun in that?
The drivetrain will be going in this car(which will soon be midori green):

you can probably find the drivetrain at any local junkyard good place to start is honda specific one.s

I am sure the crv system wont be able to handle the 500hp you plan to put down. I would take bet probably 300 hp 300 ft lbs is about the limit. the shaft is so puny as well as the rear diff

they want over $10k for the ****...and there arent any 5speeds. I could pry go to the dealer and get better prices then that...
anyone got a 5spd awd b20 trans laying around from Jap-land or something???

the diffs are about a 70-30 split. So... 500X.7=350 at the front. 150 at the rear. As long as I dont do 9k rpm launches, I should probably be ok...

I have thought about that idea and there is no reason why it wouldnt work. The weak link, I have heard, is the drivetrain. The easiest way to do it would to be to actually use the crv and modify it. (slam it, with full suspension, tighten up the chasis and chop the top)! Then it is a matter of motor swaps and beafing up. It would be a f-ing nice day when I see an all wheel drive CRV with a built motor, as low as a civic, missing three inches of head room, and stiff as a brick! If anyone can do it, you have the means and the ability to do it. And I will volunteer to be your rally navigator

500 hp? What are you going to do to the CRV drivetrain to make it accept that much power? I wouldn't think there would be many honda parts left after you do that.

Sounds like fun tho.

Im just theorizing here. The main reason Im doing this is is for wet weather, and VERY possibly, some rally events. YES the car will be raised up

yep. no reason I shouldnt be able to retro something else on there. **** it, ill just run those. They only see 30% of the power anyway, hence why they are so much smaller than the front axles...
I want to be able to roll from 25mph, and not spin the tires till 100mph, or do some drifing once the snow flys up here. Full throtlle launches on dry pavement are too loud and noisy, and yes they break ****. Im not doing this for the initial launch, but more for staying moving once I get moving...

ya thats the one i mentioned above. Those rear axles look scary being choppped and welded like they are. I have access to custom axles, so if need-be, ill just get some beefier ones made. I think for what Im doing, they wont be needed...

I dont think the rear axles, diff, transfer case, would hold up to a 500hp turbo honda.

Just last weekend i was out with my friend. He has a ~400-450whp 1st gen eclipse GSX. We were trying to figure out why it was overheating. We were running around on 26-28psi on race gas. We did one "little" test launch and blewup the rear end (he has a 3 bolt rear though..the weak one...4 bolt search as started).

My point is just like the DSM world, the CRV drive train wasnt designed for that much power in mind. Im sure it will take a ton of abuse...but you might take after the dsm kids with replacing tranny parts all the time.

4 bolt rear ends can take the power... 3 bolts can take alot it too, if you are a lightened race car.

the key is to keep the weight way down, then they wont be prone to breakages quite as much. but of course, there are limits.

Where do they make AWD Manual CR-Vs? are they even available in america? That's crazy. I'm still waiting for the issue of Honda Tuning with the AWD Type R.
