The great thing about Hondas these days is the abundance of used parts and/or good deals on new parts. If you are patient and do some smart shopping you can have a nice reliable setup for cheaper than you would think. Definetly less than $10k.

from my experience, whatever you THINK a build is going to cost, add a few more thousand.

depending on how crazy of a build your loooking for, i would say even more than that unless you know how to find deals on parts.

IM doing a mild build looking for 400+hp and so far ive spent well over 6-7k on the motor plus turbo kit alone! It all depends on if you buy quality parts or not. Expect to spend 8k plus. And remember you get what you pay for.

im shooting for a 350-400whp. i have about everything done to the motor except sleeves.i have about 8k into it including turbo stuff, my s300.

with a good tuner you could just do rods and pistons and turbo it and put down 400whp and have about 5k into it

If your shooting for 500+whp plan on spending well upwards of 8k unless you find some awesome deals on used parts.

If you are starting from scratch (i.e. no motor or trans) I would say more than 8K. Your going to want a LSD with that much power. Don't forget to allow at least $800 for ECU, software, and tuning time.

cheap way to hit 500whp would deff be to go h22 with rods and pistons and that is it to the motor(couple buddies that I know with this setup). my tuner had an eg with rods and pistons riden on some steelies and he put down 580whp with 110 octane on the dyno. not bad for just rods and pistons.

From my experience it costs much more than 10k to build a reliable high hp setup.

Of course if you have hours a day to search the forums and eBay for good deals, then you can do it for cheaper. But if you pay for quality parts and quality machine work, 10k is a starting point for that kind of build.

Then again, there are hack-job setups that can get you to your goal, so I suppose it depends on the quality of project you are looking to build.

I probably spent around 14k on my set-up, after blowing up my first motor.

I blew up my motor as well. i have close to 10k in my hatch and i got it as a shell. With this new sleeved fully built motor im looking for around 400 on pump and 550-600 on c16. (Trying to find source of E85 to convert)I already have everything needed(tranny, clutch, fuel sytem, fully built head, turbo set up) and i will be investing another 2-3k in my bottom end,lsd and misc other things

But it will all be worth it when i get to go out and make some 25+psi pulls

i bought a gsr sedan, so i got the motor, and tranny that i wanted....tore it down, re-built the block myself, (pistons/rods) re-built the tranny myself, fabricated everything myself, and tuned it all myself. everything on the car was built by me. i bought mostly barely used parts (finding people with quality parts that are hard up for cash is key lol)

all said and done, im easily around 400whp on pump gas and low boost (running mid 11's in a full weight heavy *** integra sedan) and im probably in the entire setup 5k. including the 7k i paid for the car....im in everything out the door 12-13k.

check the link in my sig, and you will see its no junkyard special

Its VERY expensive.. Hell a decent EMS and other electronics + tuning needed is an EASY $2500.

I would say upwards of 12k+ Starting from scratch.. Just in parts, with no labor. All new stuff too. Especially if you want no weak points.

I'm capable of disassembling and reassembling the engine i know how to weld and work in a fab shop. im a diesel mechanic so the lack of talent is not my issue. the labor will for the most part be done by me in my garage.

Are you kidding?? an H22?? I'm looking for a reliable engine here. I dont wanna spend 5 grand then blow the motor up 2 or 3 passes into it.

Im talkin dart block, forged crank, pistons, rods, fully built gsr head a turbo kit composed of nothing but the best parts i can find and that will work well together AEM stand alone 25 -35psi 500-600hp.

Couldnt have put it better. I have always barely had enough money for all my builds but i have a better job now to fund my addiction lol. Thats why this time around im not cutting any corners to get it done faster or cheaper. The best advice i have is to just set your mind on what you want it to be and just do it. It may cost more and take a little longer but you will be much happier with the finish product

Yea, putting together a decent setup can get pretty costly. I had a 4 Door GSR with a 84mm Ls/Vtec fully built. AFI gt 30r .82a/r kit, made 420whp and 325wtq at 16psi, tuned by jeff evans on s300.
