Auto to Manual swap... How much?
Here is the deal,
My auto tranny just gave out and I need to replace it right now. I was wondering if someone who has done this swap could let me know how much they paid and how it was working.
I did a search and I got no details that helped. So no "Do a search" comments!
I have a 97 GS boosted teg by the way.
Thanks.

It cost me about $1300, and I did it with a friend. I basically paid for parts and a couple hundred for labor. Most shops charge around $2500-3000 if you go through them.
The hardest part is getting an upper and lower tranny mount. The automatic Integras (94+) have the mount brace welded at a different spot on the frame. You can either cut the brace off the frame and reweld it, or fabricate your own mount.
Everything else is pretty much "plug and play."

I went to IMPO and they quoted me at $2,000. But for $2,800 you can get an automatic trans from Level 10 that is "bulletproof". I think that's what I'm going to do when I get some more money.
My swap cost me 2000. 1600 was parts and 400 labor. GSR trannies go for about 600-800, and a ACT HD clutch kit cost me 400. Then you need the flywheel, intermediate shaft, pedals, shift linkage, shifter, master and slave clutch cylinder, starter, all associated mounts (3 tranny mounts and one chassis mount, the one shamoo was talking about).
For me the 400 in labor was well worth it. Not only did they save me the trouble of finding the hard to find mount, they also welded it for me which I can't do. There's also some rewiring involved of the vehicle speed sensor, back up lights and so on they did for me.

Everyone else basically bolts right up.

learn from my lesson. Don't get the ACT clutch!
2200 isn't a bad quote if the shop is reputable, just make sure it's a GSR tranny, not a LS. Also

$2200-3000 sounds like a lot, but it isn't that much considering the work to be done. Keep in mind, this price should include all the parts necessary as well as the labor.

But thinking about it, I can see about $1500+ going for parts and the rest for labor...
I heard that the LS is better for Boost. Longer gears...
Why would you get a GSR tranny?

everytime I read this statement. There is no "better" tranny for boost. You get the tranny to suit your powerband and/or to optimize your 1/4 mile trap gearing. It's that simple.

For that low of boost on a B18B, I'd go with a GS-R tranny. Hell, even a B16 tranny if you don't mind the higher highway revs.
Remember...
longer in gear = slower acceleration
LS trannys becomes beneficial when you begin to trap at 120+mph and you start having to shift into 5th.

So if a guy were to have a supercharged (jackson racing) ls integra with the auto tranny and wanted to go ahead with the auto/manual tranny switch would it be in his best interest to try a gsr tanny? instead of a ls tranny? being that he was only putting low boost into his car? just wondering
