Auto Boost (Automatic Turbo Guru's Welcome !)
Hey guys wad up , i'm new to the forced induction scen and i'm looking for a little guidance , here's my situation ...
I drive a 93 civic and it's an automatic ... i've been researching online (hmt , h-t & google) and debating in my head what i should do next forced induction wise. I'm currently running a Mini-me (b7/z6) w/ bolt-on's and i'm looking forward to enter the forced induction world , well my questoin pretty much is I currently piecing together a turbo kit (T3 setup) & i'm just wondering if my automatic transmission should be able to hold 5 psi at daily driving , i'd also be running the turbo's internal wastegate & i know i may get a "boost creep" or "boost spike" so it may just to 7 psi everyonce in awhile . Right now i'm liking my automatic especially in the hilly and traffic area i live in so i figured i can just run low boost right now and be safe. sorry i'm problay confusing but my question is pretty much
"will an automatic be able to run safely on 5 psi daily ?"
also i've been trying to research about intercoolers & i've been debating on a sidemount or front I'm leaning more towards the sidemount just becuase they can be found cheaper than fmic's so i'm just wondeirng ...
"Will a small dsm side mount intercooler be fine for a daily driven civic running 5 psi ?"
If you guys can help me i'd definitely appreciate it , sorry for the long post ... - thanks justin
oh & also right now i'm not looking to go the 5 spd. conversion route just b/c i'm not trying to go through the headache of finding all the parts right now & also the work that goes w/ it so i'd put the 5 spd. conversion on hold for a couple of months for now ...

Re: (93turbo16)
you an put out alot of power, my friend had an 00 ex auto and 12psi with 220whp and then did a 5spd conversion, If your tranny is still good then boost it for a while and save up for a 5 spd, my ls used to be boosted auto and i had 160k on my auto tranny with no probs

Re: (eg8kid)
I put 233 HP and 209 Tq to the wheels through my stock F23 tranny. The tranny has been fine so far for about 30,000 miles. Lift throttle shifting alleviates a lot of wear from the transmission.

Re: (konigturbocivic)
I ran 8.5 lbs daily on a 14b with about 15 1/4 mile runs and quite a bit of spirited driving. It did pretty well. You'd notice it slipping sometimes though, I pretty much drove it like a grandma around town normally though. I took the setup apart after about 8000 miles to start working on a new setup. I loved it though, car was a blast
The dsm smic, great intercooler just heatsoaks pretty fast. Especially since I had it sidemounted where the oem intake resonator used to reside, it's a lil back there. Another really good oem intercooler is the mkiv supra intercooler, I would suggest looking into those if you wanna stay on a budget with used oem parts.
Also, a tranny cooler would help bigtime, heat kills autotragics.
They are cheap and a wise investment.
