Attention: TURBO MAFIA!!!!!
Ok, later this week, i will by purchasing the Drag Gen III from ben (great guy btw!)
my question is:
What other purchases should be made in conjunction with the turbo? right now i am thinking, MSD ignition, distributer, plugs, wires? what else?? and finally do i need adjustable cam gears to run the turbo?
like i said, i have some basic knowledge of turbos, but hey, we all gotta start somewhere,......on clubsi.com and superhonda they just assume you know everything and they wont take the time time to help us rookies!
and finally.....i assume i need to dyno tune when i get the V-AFC? or is there basic settings that is common knowlegde when running turbo?? like i said i am new!!
thanks alot guys

I'm not sure I should answer this one since I'm not part of the Turbo Mafia.. but I'm here to try to help.
You should get the "Missing Link" check valve. This will prevent any engine error codes lighting up on your dash. You should also have a set of gauges, to keep you updated on your engine's vitals.. you should have a boost gauge (duh), an air/fuel gauge, an EGT is a great gauge to have... and some people wont get a regular air/fuel but go for the Haltech.. which is a pretty damn good and accurate air/fuel gauge.
Do you have an upgraded clutch and exhaust? You definitely need a good clutch to accomidate this turbo kit. Putting out over 260 wheel hp will deem your stock clutch useless. You exhaust should be ATLEAST 2.5" .. preferably 3" from cat (or no cat) to the muffler. Your muffler should be the least restrictive you can find... but its all up to you.
Get colder spark plugs.. and gap'em around .32. Some people keep stock timing, but it doesn't hurt HP too much if you dial it back just a tad. The J&S Safeguard is a real expensive unit but its a really nice security blanket if you're worried about frying your motor.
So, lets recap on some things you should get: Missing Link, gauges, clutch, exhaust, colder spark plugs, J&S Safeguard.. optional.. but good to have.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone else. KEEP IT SIMPLE. I have a turbo kit on stock block and the only upgrades I've done is a Tial wastegate and a Greddy profec A to increase the boost. Save your money and dont buy MSD and all mess...
Stuff you do need:
-Clutch
-missing link
-NGK plugs
I think this is all you need.

i second that.. start off simple.. get the basic kit, a missing link plugs and get it running good/tuned.
order the other things.. like pistons and rods, larger injectors etc.. this way you ahve time to save themoney and get the upgrades and after it's tuned and you enjoy it for a while.. then you can upgrade the other stuff..
if you do it all at once, you open the door for anything to go wrong.. and you might not have an idea what it was cuase it was all done at once...
turbo... tuned and play for a while
get rods/pistons/injectors clutch when necessary
enjoy until youbreak something and fix that..
hood up.. hood down... hood up...hood down.... welcome to FI

Hey NYb16,
I'm pretty new to the turbo scene, too, but I'll have to agree with Art on the KISS line of thinking. It'll make things much less complicated. I'll add to his list a better oil return line than is included with the Drag 3 kit (this is a minor thing). A J&S Safeguard isn't necessarily needed, but could be very beneficial in the long hawl.
Congrats on the purchase!

Actually to save that $50-80 you dont really need a missing link. The check valves that come with the drag kit dont work well. So just buy 2 check valves at a fish store that cost $2.50 each, they work fine. But if you wanna pay $80 for a nicer looking check valve it's up to you.

Hey Liltrix,
I just got my foot in the door.
I guess you'd better ask Mark C. or one of the older (but younger) members for the details.

about the only thing I'd add to the basic DRAG kit is the Tial upgrade, an EBC, 440cc injectors, and Hondata. Then it's like a factory turbocharged Honda

I think the gauges are more important then a J&S. A J&S is a nice to have but not a must. I have one and recommand that you get one of you are going to stay on the stock ECU but they are not NEEDED to start out with. I would wait on the EBC until everything else is sorted out.
The musts are:
Oil return upgrade
Tial wastegate
gauges
exhaust
