ARP TORQUE SPEC AND PATTERN
WHAT TORQUE SPEC IS FOR THE ARP HEAD STUD....ON A B18C1...I SEE 60 BUT THE PAPER SAY 80. AND WHAT IS THE Pattern on who to torque the head to the block.........like.......what needs to be torque first.........please help..........

60ft lbs is when using ''ARP Moly Lube'' and 80ft lbs is when using engine oil.
Torque in 3 steps 10-20 wait for a bit (15-20mins) loosen then do it again all the way to a max of 60ft lbs. ( I do this process 3 times on heads & mains) Reason is because stud stretch for each individual stud is irregular. You'll notice after torquing all heads studs then loosening them that you don't use the same force loosening them.

are you sure....cuz on the paper that arp send it........it says 80 with the lube and 85 with 10w30 or 5w30 cant remember..........if it is then 60 is too low..........

So, we should torque them to what then? Lol, so many different answers in here. Also, sorry if this is noob but its my first time with the head off, do the washers go between the head and block? or between the head and nut?
And do I just hand tighten the studs into the block, then torque it down with the head? What is the correct way to do so?

the washers go between the head and nut... lets use a little common sense. use a thread chaser to get any gunk out of the threads and hand tighten the studs in. then torque it in sequence first to 20 ft lbs, then 40, then the final 70 if using arp lube. if you use engine oil, go 30, 60, 85.
Lol, thats right, I dont know how that got into my head. Ah, I saw a pic earlier of a block with the washers around the studs resting on the deck, just threw me off i guess. Lol.

what........i though due to the expansion rate of ALUMINUM, you said 60....now 70..........please what is the right way of doing this......need to know.......dont wanna over tight or too lose..........
Yesterday I also wanted to assemble some blocks.
The paper with the 80 Ft.lbs tourque specs seems to be new in some ARP boxes.
In the older boxes they recommended something else.
Maybe they changes the material or they notices problems with the old lower tourquw specs.
Does someone know more about it?

I just got my head(b18c1) back from laskey racing. I bought the ARP Head Studs and Mike Laskey recommended I torque them to 80 ft/lbs in 3 step increments w/ ARP moly lube on the threads nuts and washers. Then retorque the bolts after 500-1000 miles or so. I even asked him if 70 was ok but he said "I would go ahead and take it on up to 80 ft/lbs with the moly lube"

yes thats all right but the only thing is the re-torque. if your using a stock 3 ply headgasket there is not need to re-torque.
