Default ARP rod bolt stretch

I was trying to check my rod journal clearnace with plastigage and this happened.

I lubed up the bolt with the ARP moly-lube that was included with my Eagle rods then I torqued them in a 3 step process.. first 25, then 50, then 75 ft. lbs last. Did I do something wrong?

Ouch! At least it was only a $10 mistake, if I'm remembering the individual bolt cost correctly.

The rod bolts don't get much torque because it would distort the caps.

this is why Eagles get a bad name for breaking bolts.
At least he admitted to the mistake.
Ozzyman, just get new bolts, should be cheap. Those Tq specs sound like Head Bolt specs.

Good you caught it before it became a problem with a nice skylight thru your block.

I'm so pissed at myself... you guys are right though. I'm much happier that I caught it now then payed for it later. Now I just have to find someone that sells rods bolts for Eagle H22 rods individually. Any suggestions? Thanks for all the input btw!

Eagle uses ARP bolts. The size is 3/8" and the material is ARP2000 steel. You need to measure the length of a good bolt (from the tip to the bottom of the cap) to figure out which length you need. You can order them individually from ARP. They should be about $10 each.

As you can probably tell, I was going by the 7/16" one. I assumed it was talking about the bolt head size not the actual thickness of the bolt. I have this sheet already. Thanks though!

Whenever you see a bolt spec (length, diameter, etc.) it NEVER includes the head. The measurements are taken as though the head doesn't exist.

I made the same mistake on my rod bolts... Their spec is kinda cofusing.... Change the rod bolts.. It should be torque at 43 ft lbs with moly lube not 75ft lbs

Add my name to the Jack *** list. But is it me or Eagle rods sheet is confusing? The bolt that came with my Eagle rods supposebly is the upgrade one, 7/16.
Now here is what the paper says:

The torque specs= 7/16 ARP 2000
Identification = 7/16 Bolt Head
Torque = 75 FT. lbs.
Bolt Strech = .0064"-.0068"

What the hell did I did wrong? The head bolt is a 7/16 ,, 12 point and even the head bolt says ARP 2000 so according to the chart it should be torque to 75 lbs. I know it was a big jump from the factory one but I figure these are ARP so I guess that since they hold more power thats the reason they have to torque to 75lbs. mine broke in half. I think I have to buy two sets of two. since I torque then in sequence starting at 50lbs, thank god I only did 2 rods like that. this new rod came with the rod bolt upgrade from 3/8 to 7/16 but how come the 3/8 arp 2000 ones get torque 43lbs? I think it wasnot my fault, eagle and ARP should agree on making the information sheet more accurate. Damm Im upset !! Im gonna call Summit Racing and see if they can do something for me Cause I belived it was the spec sheet that is confusing. like how much would be for two sets of 2?
