Default Anyone using poly motor mounts? Like them?

I'm installing some on my 89 si, and I've heard mixed opinions about using them for daily driving (which I will be doing eventually)

The side mounts worked out great, but when the rear went in, it gets noticably more vibration into the cabin.

I'm gonna order some Energy Suspension mounts. I will install the sides, not the rear.

Not to mention... the rear is a BITCH to put on...

I've got the motor out right now, just rebuilt, so installing them won't be a problem. Do they help with wheel hop? I know getting to the rear will be a bitch, so I want to decide before I put the motor back in, which I'll do this week.

Thanks for the replies

The rear is the most important mount because it's the mount where most of the torque from the engine will be absorbed. As others have stated that, it is biayayatch to install unless the intake manifold is removed.

I had them in my 2k JRSC'd Civic Si and they were ok. I didn't really notice much difference except for an increase in cabin vibration if the idle dropped below ~700 rpm or so. That would happen periodically when I was running a Kamikaze header.

Everyone said the rear was such a pain to install, but I didn't think it was that bad at all. I had my downpipe off and it was easy to get at from the bottom. All I had to take off in the engine bay was the intake pipe. With the intake manifold still on, I was able to do it in about an hour or two at most. This was on a prelude though.

If you already have the motor out and are concerned about performance... DO IT...

I shopped around and I think I ended up getting them from Murray's Speed and Custom... but not definite... no matter tho... prices only varied like $10 or so from SFP,Dynamic-T, Blitz and Murrays... SFP had it in stock tho... but that was a while ago..

Dont buy any!!! Try this first. Take your stock mounts and fill them with 3M window weld. It is a liquid polymer that sets up rock hard when fully dried. I just did this to my mounts two weeks ago when i put my rebuilt block back in and it is such a difference! You can buy the window weld at automotive places, but make sure that it is the polymer stuff. I just took sandpaper and roughed the insides of the mounts out first, then applied by hand over a work bench. Make sure that you are wearing surgical gloves b/c the stuff doesnt not come off your hands for days. IMO it is better than the other poly mounts b/c the liquid gets into the whole mount, where the other poly mounts just install and dont get into the center of the mount very well. I will take like a week to dry though, since it is such a thick amount of the polymer applied.

Ive got the front and rear Prothane mounts on my F22. Love em.

Only negative is at idle you feel the engine vibrating more in the cabin.

That is actually what I have done already (Used 3M Window Weld). I had read of someone blaming a blown gear on the poly motor mounts, so I wanted to see if anyone else had similar trouble, or any other concerns before I put my motor in.

BTW, the 3M Window Weld does work very well for filling your mounts. One tube ($11) should fill all 4 mounts!

I just installed the two side mounts on my D16Y8 yesterday and I can feel more engine vibration in my car. Not bad, but it is noticable.

If the motor is out do the rear one cause if you bust it in the future you're gonna kick yourself for not doing it to begin with. Also, there is alot of vibration especially with the A/C on.

I've got the two sides and the rear in, you do have a noticable rumble vibration with the rear in, but I dont think its really worth it to just have the sides in w/o rear, the rear did the most as far as improving my launch. The added vibration can be completely avoided if you slip the clutch into gear a little softer, and since it is only really noticable going into 1st its no big deal, trust me at least try it with the rear in its better, if its too much vibration just take it out...

About that blown gear w/ mount inserts to blame thing...I just blew my tranny a few weeks ago and I only had the sides in at the time. I put the rear in last week with the new tranny. I dont think these things are anywhere near harsh enough to break any tranny parts...just my opinion

OK, I have a '98 Prelude 5speed Base...I get real bad wheel hop...more than what should be normal. I heard replacing the mounts will help with that. true?? Also where can I find a set for a 5th gen Prelude, I havent been able to find them. Also, with very little mechanical skills, how long can I expect this to take. Thanks for your help...any and all info you have would be great.

I put all 3 energy suspension inserts in my 95 hatch with b18c1. The cabin shakes ALOT! but Im not a comfort ***** so i dont care. The annoying cabin squeaks and sounds get to me sometimes though. It took me about an hour to install all 3 insers...it's really easy.

Get to the back mount bracket from underneath, and to the actual mount from the sides with an extention, it's not hard at all.
