a friend of mine is putting together a b20/vtec with a gsr head currently. if the block is the b20z the compression will be around 10:1, which is too high for my tuning comfort on a b20. is anyone running 2 headgaskets on their turbo b series?? im seriously contemplating having him use 2 gaskets to lower static compression and buy us some safety wiht peak cyl pressures under boost.

 

 

its still less compression than a JDM B18C.

1. get the proper thickness IE: Cometic

or

2. dont do it.

 

Lots of Euro tuners do it, seems to work ok on VW's, but it's definately one of those iffy things. Worse comes to worse you're gonna blow out HG's more easily.

Ive done it and never had a problem..just popped the rivits out and layer'ed them down

b20's are notorious for blowing sleeves, and im just trying to start with a lower compression in efforts to keep the peak cylinder pressures and hopefully prolong the lifetime of the motor. yes the compression is still less than a jdm b18c, but the motors are constructed differently, so i dont think they are accurately comparable.

yes, which is where i got the idea. my very good friend has been running double headgaskets on his 2.0 x-flow turbo for like 3 years on an fmu and his car runs smooth as any other turbo car ive been in. this motor will be using arp headstuds as well

planning on running around 6 psi, definately no more than 8. should be in the 250 whp range with those boost figures, which is fine

 

holy **** 6 PSI you better make that 4-5 gaskets, just to play it safe!!!!

a friend informed me that Mr. Gaskets sells a stackable headgasket kit... i'm not sure if theyre available for hondas tho.

and b20s crack sleeves b/c theyre 84mm (less material when compared to 81mm) and i beleive they are a different material.

i did a few hours reading up on it the other day. i guess they are prone to cracking where the cylinders meet each other, kinda in the corners of the cyls.

the owner is probably going to rebuild the gsr block that blew, and is just using this b20 for the summer.

i was just kinda curious if anyone does this on hondas, cause as mentioned before volkswagon does it on occasion

ok useless information i understand. i have had a personal expierence with stacking head gaskets on a b18c1.

my friend had a turbo rebuild done at a reputable shop outside of chicago, he decided to try stacking head gaskets to lower the compression a little and ended up being more work and bullshit than the origional idea.

come to it 3 weeks after the install of the head gaskets they blew.

he tried it again from a different brand, same place installed it, blew again.

for some reason he tried it one more time from the dealer he thought he should have gone to in the first place, installed, next day blew. you could say the motor is screwed, but it wasnt. everything that was tested on the car was fine, and the only thing it led back to was the head gaskets.

so many head gaskets later and tons of money wasted he ended up going with an OEM gasket, and 3 months later hasn't run into a single problem. i understand that we are talking about a different motors here, but i still think my input is hardly useless. just my .2

IF the owner decides to do something to try to lower his compression, im thinking it might be better just to get a thicker aftermarket gasket, like a greddy or something
