Any1 here running the VAFC Hack?
Has any1 had any reliability issues? I'm debating whether to go VAFC (for now) or wait and go for the Hondata s200b? There is a big price difference. I know u can't adjust timing with the VAFC but is it good enough for now?
How much boost is safe to run with the hack?
I'm running a del sol B16a with the Max Rev Kit....

Im running the poor mans hondata (HACK) and love it. but like some one said above it does tend to "BUCK" when you let off and get backl on it but other than that it it is awsome. I run 12psi on my SOHC Y8

It has some key features that make it advantageous over the VAFC. See the SMC+ website below for details.SMC plus
haha, i though i was the only with the bucking problem because it was doing that even before the hack.
you should just run the hack, you could alway sell the vafc after you save up enough money for the hondata. i'm saving for EMS.

Honestly, I would have bought and used the SMC if it were available when I first did my turbo until I could afford the Hondata. Now I've got Hondata, and I can't wait to "finish" my car, have it tuned, and finally have a car that runs like it's supposed to (although 206/184 isn't bad using the hack @ 9psi on an SOHC).

anybody know what people with the hack can do to prevent that?

nothing, its unaviodable

I don't buck.
The bucking is caused by advanced ignition timing under boost associated with MAP sensor based boost hacks. My CRX even did it once or twice when it was still NA and cruising around on the 450cc's and AFC - feels more like hesitation then. Once you have your ECU chipped with ignition maps to compensate for the way they are stretched, the bucking goes away.
Does that answer your question, Del?
Just to touch on the Bucking issue, i believe that it has something to do with not going into open loop soon enough, or going back into closed loop at the appropriate time.

J. Davis is right on this you should just go with Hondata and chip it or get him or Filetofit to make up a chip for ya. All hacks have their downfalls.
