Default Another B20 bites the dust...

Our shop manager took the car out to the track over the weekend while I was away for Thanksgiving. Only got to make one pass - 12.0 @ 23mph. Puff of smoke after being in 5th gear for a split second. Clutch in, motor off.

Did a compression test first - 63psi, 0psi, 0psi, 170psi. Cylinder #4 was a champ! Stock B20 w/ 20psi ~ 385whp on our Mustang dyno with the clutch slipping above 6500 rpm.

Cylinders 1, 2 & 3 are all cracked. Pistons #2 & 3 are melted right where the sleeve cracked.

I only tuned it for 10 psi. Kinda wanted the motor to blow so we upped the boost w/o additional tuning. We had it on the dyno, wideband read ~ 13.5:1 (.90 Lamda) but I didn't change anything because I was going to be swapping it out over the winter. It still took 3 months of beating on it for it to break.

Props for blowing up a otherwise good block and having less usable parts because it was fun to blow up and be ignorant.

HaHa, yea were a bunch of ignorant *****, after we blow up motors for fun. We punch pregnant women in the gut for a good laugh.

Who really cares it was a 2dollar motor, worth nothing to begin with. Made a good amount of power, and lasted 5x times longer then we expected or wanted. I was planning on tossing a built motor in the car right after the WMHM, but for everybody that was there the car ran awesome, and continued running awesome on that tune with 10-15 more pounds of boost. I also highly doubt it was anywhere near 13.5:1, but none the less who cares i really wish it would of tossed a rod or something. To each there own.

Ha, people blowing up motors for fun, especially DOHCs is funny to me too. It lasted longer than you wanted it to? So when you were driving it you were like "Man I hate that this 385 hp motor is running so well and is so fast I really wish it would blow up" ? I'm not hating, but that motor definitely was worth more than 2 dollars I totally would have given you 3 for it.

Don't really care, it is the disregard that I don't like.
It is just an act of ignorance. But whatever, it just doesn't make much sense to me. Next time, send it to me, I will pay for shipping

Yea for real...if you see it running 13.5:1 on the dyno then why not simply add a little more fuel in?

In a way threads like this make me mad. I have a car with a hole in its block, one which might have a bearing issue - and here you intentionally blow **** up.

Stock limits of 385whp for a b20 vs 250ish for a d16... kinda makes me wonder why I'm stuck with D's. Then I look at my tuition bill

You think it was more from thin sleeves flexing due to heat & cyl pressure? Since it was mainly by the sleeve 'bridges', I'd expect it started where the oil was getting by the rings in those areas.

i'd say to much timing and to little fuel judging by how everything is melted.

What kind of temperature does it take to melt sleeves?

No idea, but if you give me a couple weeks.. I'll try this experiment again, and give you exact test data... B20s are like 2 for $500 at password i think, I'll just hold off and only buy one hooker this weekend and save some money.
