Default Alternator problem?

This might just be from a shitty alternator but has anyone killed an alternator from overreving? I had my alternator **** out (b16a1 old ***) so i got an autozoner and it worked fine for like 1k. Last night on the track about halfway down the strip, the batter light comes on. Durring that pull i hit 9400k and 20 psi (rev limter was set for 9k). I also have the dreaded ctr pulley, (saving for a fluidampr) i know they are a bit smaller that a stockie so i wonder if im spinning hte alternator too fast. Or maybe just autozone **** sucks ?
