Whats up. I am very new to FI. When i actually had a car(totaled becasue old people dont look before they try to jet across a two line highway) i was all motor. Now that i will have a JDM ITR motor to work on in my garage i am going to boost it up a notch. I was just wandering what do you people thinkwould be a good size turbo to put on it. From what i've been reading an ideal compression for a turbo is in the range of 8-10 compression, is that correct? Mainly just have no clue on what size turbo. I havent decided yet whether it will be an all out drag motor or an everyday driven one.

This is a major concern right now. Before you go out and start buying parts, sit down and figure out what you want to do with the car and what your expectations are. There is a lot more than just "bolting on" a turbocharger on a factory normally aspirated motor. There is a book that has helped me out alot in the past by Corky Bell. Maybe youre library has it. I can't recall the name of it but maybe someone on here can. If you want to turbocharge your car, make that book your bible along with a helms.

Once you figure your goals then do some calculations (turbo size, injector size, fuel pump size, etc etc) and look at turbo compressor maps and find one that will best suite you along with all yur other goodies....Everyone wants things handed to them, whatever happened to research....I never even posted on honda-tech till after I was boosted and did all the research from other non honda-tech infomation I found my turbo the old fashioned way (calculator and compressor maps)....There is so much information in books, tech articles, etc... everything u wanna know is at your fingertips if you take the time...Dont rush boost, you will blow that lil JDM motor then u will look like this

Yeah but thats the thing. I dont know about what size turbo would be ideal. I dont want to build a all race motor but one i could swap into my new car. It would be an everyday driven car. One with a kick.

If you can do a little research into the technical side of properly turbocharging an engine you can figure out what the proper specs ought to be for your particular engine. Only you know what you are going to be doing with your car and what you want it to do. If you can find the compressor maps of different turbos(I suggest innovativeturbo.com as a reference point) I will be happy to send you an excel program that can point you in the right direction as to what turbo will be right for you. I've been handing this out for over a year now and I've never gotten a complaint about it. In fact, I think somebody did a couple of improvements on it and started selling it on ebay for $15+s/h. I don't know if its exactly mine but it sure as hell looks the same. The only thing different is that mine doesn't have compressor maps included. Let me know if you're interested and if you have any questions I will be glad to help.
