Default air filter for turbo

I want to run more than just a screen or super cheap filter that won't protect my turbo and engine.

What brand filter is going to filter best, but not choke the engine? Obviously OEM isn't an option unless I could fit an Integra air box on the driver's side

K&N has been proven to filter poorly.

Read around other forums.

I guess there is a prefilter to use in conjuction with the normal filter, but after reading several anecdotal cases, if there's something that would filter better, I'd rather give up a few hp than have poor filtering on a street car.

I guess I found my own answer. The AEM Dryflow filters better than the K&N.

I have run the 4" dryflow and a 4" k&n filter on my car. I found the k&n to hold up much better.... it was stronger... the aem filter started to fall apart... the high engine bay temps did a number on it... also the dry flow filter is much harder to clean than the k&n filter... k&n would clearly be my recommendation

i think the dryflow filter is more effective with a naturally aspirated system were the power level is lower and so are the engine bay temps...

hope i helped...

My concern having a daily driver is sucking up dust and crap because there's times where you have to drive through road construction and there's clouds of concrete dust, dirt, etc. If it were a track only car, I could just throw a screen or K&N on it and I know I'd have to rebuild before seeing damage from the normal dust that's sucked in. Being a daily driver, dealing with more difficult cleaning, etc is better than having to rebuild again.

DelSolMarine, which dryflow did you have? "AEM Universal Clamp-on air filters come in two basic types. Our standard Dryflow™ air filter has screen wire for rigid structural strength. These filters have a red colored oil-free filtering media. Our other clamp-on filter is our Brute Force Dryflow™ air filter. It is a durable filter that is a favorite in rough dusty racing conditions. These filters have a gray colored filtering media. They are very durable and not as rigid."

I'm contemplating getting another 2.5" J bend pipe and making something so I could stick my filter in the bumper. I have polyurethane mounts, so the motor shouldn't move very much.

it would be the brute force one....

The K&N will block more than enough particals of dust... I have driven my car through dust storms and the intake wheel on my turbo looks in new condition from the last time i pulled off the intake

Uni and Perrin, there are some Moroso, Moose Racing and others, but most seem to be aimed at motorcycles.
