Default AFR Gauge not reading. help!

ok so we finally got my buddy's car running with a t3 setup on it.. it's a d16z6.. he needed an o2 sensor so the only thing we could get a hold of is a universal o2 sensor that you wire your old plug onto the wires. the problem is that the AFR gauge is not picking up a reading.. NO LEDs show up. i know it has power because when the car is not on but in the on position the green led lights up. It is connected to the signal wire on the o2 sensor.. any ideas??

What kind of o2 sensor was it? If its a heated one (wideband) then you can't just splice it into your wires. If its the correct o2 sensor, it should just plug right in. Also how does your car idle? If its the right o2 sensor your car should drive/idle fine. If its the wrong one...I would think your car would have problems idling.

It was the Bosch universal.. and the car doesn't idle right yet because we haven't had a chance to tune it.. it's got a decent idle, but we have the AFC hack going on so we can't really mess with it too much without the o2 sensor. The sensor just had 4 wires that you much up on thier chart to your colors.. and use the plug from the stock o2 sensor on the car. It should work fine with that sensor correct?
