AEM ECU
I was wondering how many people here use the new aem ecu. I am about to buy one, but I would like to hear comments from people w/ personal experience and what they think about the system. I hear alot about hondata, I figure since aem ecu is fairly new not alot of people have given it a chance. So please post your comments if you have had personal experience or have had a friend that used it, not what you have read from all the magazine articles. Seems like a good system w/ lots of potential tell what you guy think.
ist a pretty good system. i was reading up on it yesterday. the Race ECU has more options like NOS contorl, Boost Control (these two also come in the P&P version), Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) feedback.
It seems to me that everything that is on the WISH LIST of hondata forum has been incorporated into this EMS.
im not sure if this has full throttle shifting option or not.

you can find a lot of info if you try to do a search. The aem ecu has been discussed quite frequently.
i'm also seriously thinking about the AEM EMS. Im afraid if i get the hondata 4b i will regret it down the line once people start figuring out how to work the AEM properly. If anyone has the AEM and had it dyno tuned, how long did it take to tune it? AEM race ems has plenty of feautres that the hondata doesnt have, like preludevtec23, i would like some stories of guys that have the AEM. thanks

Hondata is a great system, works very well for a street/track car. Aem is still a new system, it might get better or it might get worst! Don't know if you guys remember but AEM came out with thier own pistons or rods way back then.. Do you hear about their rods or pistons now? Offcourse not! They stop selling those because it was crap!!! No one is really going to know if its a great system or not till about 1 year from now. 1 year from now there will be tons of feedback about it. As for right now Hondata has gotten nothing but POSITIVE feedback!!
If you are still considering somethign besides Hondata then you might want to look towards other standalones. AEM and Hondata aren't the only ones around. Accel DFI (V7) is pretty damm good. Speedpro is just as good as DFI because the guys who wrote the software for Accel also wrote it for Speedpro. Haltech works for many! Also if you have the money for it, Motec is the ****!!! But if your like many of us, who lack $5,000 for the basic setup, it's out of reach. If you really did your homework carefully you will find that DFI, Speedpro and other fuel management systems cost just about the same if not less then AEM. AEM is trying to take over the market of Fuel managment systems in the import industry by using HYPE and MARKETING. Is is hype ? Maybe, Maybe not. We shall see in about 1 year or so. There's a couple of people in the 9's already with AEM EMS (eg. DRT). But the God honest truth is AIR FUEL IS AIR FUEL. It's just how you get there is the key. A good example is (for you computer geeks) writing a program to figure out the average of a couple of scores will take aobut 100 lines in COBOL language while doing in C++ will take aobut 10 lines. But the outcome is still the same!! The AVERAGE!! Hence the line "AIR FUEL IS AIR FUEL".
also, im not sure if alot of other ecu tuners have 'em, but hondata has great traction control inside the ecu as well that is awesome, does AEM EMS have that?
and how much $$ are these bad boys??

You make a very good point about AEM and the "hype". I have heard alot of discussions between all the standalones and I personaly am trying to decide between AEM and hondata. The only reason why I havent made the purchase yet is cuz I just want to be sure and not have any regrets. Everyone here at honda tech has been very very helpful in giving their thoughts. Alot of people have alot of good things too say about Hondata (which obviously means alot about their system), and alot of people say that AEM is just to new and not alot are using the system yet. AEM shows alot of potential, and some think that next year they might be the system everyone is talking about. These discussions could go on forever debating which to get, I guess it'll just come down to what my gut says at the end.

I have the plug & play on my turbo Si. It doesn't run all that great right now. I should have it tuned and ready by next week, once I am finished with school. The system looks great although it has just tooooo many options. The person tuning my car (Lawrence Connley) is a Speed Pro guy and he was impressed. Although there were more setttings to get the car to idle than to run the motor he said. Nevertheless he was impressed with many of the options that Speed Pro did not have and that it was a basic plug in. I just recieved my wideband so that will help a lot! I hear alot of people talking about the system and my personal opinion is that I should have waited rather than buying it as soon as it came out. Reason being is that knowone knew how to tune it. No import shop in Houston knew how to tune it, even Carboy, the place AEM referred me to, did not feel comfortable messing with it yet. It still is a new system. Find out if any shops in your area have dealt with the system first hand so you will not be in the same situation I was in.
