we needed it asafp and tonys supplier was out of small magnets, so he used the big ones. we knew from previous experience on sinitrons car that moving the gear didnt make anymore power so it wasnt a big deal to us. normally we would use the small magnets, but time didnt permit.

thanks for clearing that up jdogg. i thought maybe there was some "technical" reason behind it.
also have another question.
as far as mounting the bracket for the sensor. do i need to alighn the sensor with any of the magnets or ? 10 degrees off?

not really, you just need to see which cylinder is coming to tdc right AFTER the sync tooth. that cylinder is 0 teeth, setup the others accordingly. then you can use the ign phase (ign timing setup wizard) to get it all straight. also remember to change the ignition teeth, fuel teeth, and the injector phase stuff and the tooth control table.

you are refering to "teeth" in the stock dist housing on the cam/crank sensors? or would these magnets now be considered the "teeth"

The trigger without using the dizzy is confusing to me.. Ill have to read up on it some more..
Since the stock obd1 dizzy has 24 teeth in it, do you have to change that number to whatever number of magnets you have on the cam gear, I assume the magnets need to be separated exactly the same from each other also..
Where did you get the magnet pickup that you have on your valve cover from?

the sensor is a motec part. i got mine from Tony1
pictures are always fun to loook at.

this is the other end of the sensor, it has a power, ground, and 2 pickups, one for cam, other for crank.

yeah... the stock stuff is 24 teeth... so basicly you make everything associated with fuel/ign teeth 1/2 of what it was if you use 12 teeth... then use the ign and injector phase to bring everything around if the sync isnt in the same place. the ems works well with 12 and 24 teeth setups. thats what the tooth control table does, it takes timing patterns with more or less than that number and sort of converts it to 12 or 24 teeth... its a bad explaination, but anything else would be too complicated and im lazy.
the sensor is actually a haltec part... make sure to use the GREY one, not the black one.

Do you have to do this when doing the C.O.P CDi setup? I'm assuming this contols the timing? If so, It looks like I would have to buy a diiferent Cam gear (more money
). What is this called cause I wouldn;t even know how I would do a search for this magnet/cam gear setup.

Both Tony 1 or JDogg can provide you with the gears, sensor, and mount setup

you dont have too, but when we start having problems with the stock mag pickups in the honda dizzy we swap it out for this stuff... about 1/3 of hondas have crappy dizzys

I get it now. I guess once I get my car running (crosses fingers) I'll try the C.O.P. with the stock dizzy and if it that doesn't cut it, I'll switch.
Also, about how much is the alternative magnet setup?
Thanks ALL for the explaniation. I learn something new everyday.

i was running the c2di with cop setup and nothing looks better than no plug wires on a engine, it was deff. the hotness. sad to say i had to sell it due to money issues
, but i know someone on honda tech will be stoked when it arrives in the mail for them shortly

Apparently the larger magenets are much cheaper also.
oh and on a side note, you don't -have- to do this when you go C.O.P. I ran my stock POS honda distro for several months. But trust me, if you are going to do it .... DO IT ALL. You'll love yourself for it later. Lazer-beam timing marks... that never change... and no more dealing with stupid honda distros + bearings ever again!
whee.
Now someone buy my car godamnit. I need a mini-van

yea, i hear that. my aem was getting all kinds of ignition errors, and the car would shut off on its own. i just gotta get a cam sensor braket made up. and ill be on my way. im gonna raychem/label my harness with deutsch connectors.
