ACT clutch slipping
what power level do you guys normally see the heavy duty ACT clutch kit slip at(with the ACT street disk). Mine has recently started slipping now that i put a bigger turbo on. When I mash the gas it will slip for about 1k rpms and then grab. I am only in the 200-220whp range probably. The clutch kit has about 2 years worth of hard boosted miles on it so who knows maybe it just got worn out. I just wish I knew if it was the clutch disc or pressure plate that i need to replace . I definately want to get the xtreme pressure plate the next time.

Re: ACT clutch slipping (SOHC_MShue)
Dont mess around with just buying one or the other. Replace both since you have it apart. I would go with a nice sprung six puck. Decently easy to drive with good grapping power and a heave preassure plate. Two years on a streat disk with abuse is good!

I think i'll just go ahead and take it apart and see what the disc looks like. Honestly I dont want to get a puck clutch. I dont like the way they drive at all. The street disc will be good for plenty of power.

yea thats why i'm suprised my hd is slipping. I know the street disc and xtreme plate will hold a lot. We had it on my friend's 500+whp lsvtec and it would slip slightly on WOT shifts.

Re: ACT clutch slipping (SOHC_MShue)
i really dont suggest anyone with a boosted bseris to use the hd pressure plate with the organic disk. it really doeesent hold much more than stock at all.
for anything more than or close to 300whp i sugest the act extream pp and 6 puck disc. the organic will hold but wont last long at all.
i have the action 6 puck sprung and duel diaphran pp and it hold 400whp no problem with only very minimal amounts of clutch chatter

xtreme pressure plate with street disc here! (xtss) with about 300whp? Give or take a little, and been going strong for 1-2 years.

Re: ACT clutch slipping (synik)
what do you guys think about clutchmasters? I may be able to get a good deal on that, but it doesn't look like they have a pressure plate comparable to the ACT xtreme.

Re: ACT clutch slipping (synik)
if your flywheel and pressure plate are in OK shape you could just put a metallic 6 puck in there. I used the HD plate with the R6 disc on my d16 and it worked awesome. I beat the hell out of it with between 210-240whp for about 8000 miles. Then I put the clutch in another car and its still going strong. I think the disc is around $100

yeah, it worked well didnt it I loved the way the clutch felt vs a puck clutch. But i guess its time for a twin when the car is back up again.
Good Luck Matt, hopefully you'll get it right soon so you can hold some more power. You'll prolly only need a disk like bailhatch said.
When you bringin the old turbo by? jk

yea i think i'm looking at eventually trying to push this setup to around 300whp so i think i'm just gonna order a whole new kit so i know everything is fresh. This clutch setup i have on there now has been so abused by me anyways.

ya if your stuff is beat up already its not worth it then. The HDR6 is only rated at like 280 ft/lbs anyway so 300hp would be in the upper range of it.

Re: ACT clutch slipping (SOHC_MShue)
I have the ACT HDSS clutch in my car. Had it more than 2 years now. Was using the nitrous at first then boosted it with about 300 to the wheels. More than 20k boosted at that power level. It slips when I have the drag radials on in first and second. On the highway it is straight. I have a competition clutch in my room waiting to install, but waiting on the rest of the parts to put it in.

I think i'm gonna be ordering me a xtss tomorrow if i get the chance. I cant take this slippage anymore. I want to enjoy my new turbo and crank the boost up a little

Re: (mike93boost)
Yea it should. Like I said on my friend's car it held over 500whp with only a slight amount of slippage when WOT shifting. He had some decent torque too with a 84mm bottom end.

Re: (SOHC_MShue)
thats good to hear.. but i dont want ANY slipping at all. lol
ill probably just get the xtreme pressure plate for my new setup then. since my clutch is basically still new.

So your HDSS was holding fine for 2 years of hard abuse? I am considering the HDSS and I don't plan on abusing it very much.

Yes sir, many drag strip friday nights . I have so many slips with 113mph+ traps and the clutch held. Because it slips alittle, I think thats why I never broke an axle. Gonna take it out soon and see the carnage.
