ACL bearings are they universal?
I just got some acl bearings from blkDOHCsol in GA and they were supposed to be for a gsr, so he says. now that I have received them the boxes on them say the applications on it and they are for all non-vtec engines. Are these bearings universal? thanx for your help!

bearings are bearings it doesn't matter if you have vtec or not... now wether they are the right size for your app is another question
the real question you need to ask is this. are all B series mains the same size.

when I ordered mine from earl (from this board) he told me that acl's were one size fits all. All I got were the rod bearings, so I dont know about the rest. I also dont know if that only applies to aftermarket rods. I havent had any problems with mine *knock on wood*

with honda bearings you do. The way it was explained to me is that acl bearings are like green honda bearings, not real big, not real small, right in the middle. If you want to run tight clearances, I would go with honda bearings so you can adjust with a different bearing if necessary.
Universal bearings? That doesn't seem right. You're not going to be able to hold tight clearances if the bearings are universal. Although quality aftermarket rods usually have the same size on the big end, the journals on the crank aren't always going to be the same. Can someone who has rebuilt a motor using ACL bearings or has extensive motor building experience please elaborate on this for me? I'm interested in ACL bearings myself, but if they are universal I don't want my clearances all over the map.
I think they are meant for people with aftermarket rods since most aftermarket rods are the same size on the big end, and the journols on the crank should be the same....
Does anybody know for sure what the deal is with ACL bearings? Are the journals on Honda cranks held to extremely tight tolerances from the factory? I've been told not to pay attention to the stampings on the block from the factory and to measure the crank journals and then meausre the big end of the rod, do the math and then select the appropriate bearing size. Someone with Honda motor building experience please help answer this question about ACL bearings.

Just make sure you plastigauge them. If one or two are out of spec, just buy the coresponding Honda bearing.

Is OK to mix and match bearings like that? Using ACL then OEM Honda to get into spec? Just doesn't seem right.

Ah, read Bryson's Post. That is what he is talking about. If one of them is out of spec more, you use Honda bearings to compensate.

So nobody really knows what the deal is with ACL bearings?
Does anybody out there have any actual experience with these bearings? I don't care if you have them in your motor, I want to hear from someone who has built a motor using these bearings and how they compare to OEM Honda bearings.

I built my motor with acl's and When I plastigauged everything was within spec, although not as tight as I would have liked it from what I remember.
if you aligh hone the mains to the true journal you can use the ACL with no issues with specs .025 .035 .055 any size over should work fine. as long as you plastiguage to see where your clearance is at.
The Honda bearings work relaly well if you havent dont much else mostly stock block that hasnt been touched mains and the caps and crank..
Probelm with honda bearings is that they are always freaking backorderd so you never can finish your engine....

OK, I'm going to be rebuilding my motor (B18C5) in the coming weeks and I'm considering using ACL bearings. I'm going to be using Eagle H-Beam rods. The block and crank are untouched. Will I be safe ordering a set of ACL bearings? Should they be within specs? Or should a use the stampings on the block and the rods big end size to purchase the appropriate OEM Honda bearings? What are your thoughts? Thanks.
I've built many engines with ACL's with no problems. They always come out in spec. If they were to be out of spec, you have a bigger problem than a bearing (bad crank, bad rod, etc.)
As far as I know, Honda is the only manufacturer that offers bearings in colors that give you the option of making micro changes. Most OEM car manufacturers only offer 1 choice of bearing size.
I know Camp1320 sells ACL's, but I think he got banned.
