Yeah, it will not be the exhaust that fails you. The turbo most definately will though!

They don't even look under the hood here in MD. I have had three of my cars smogged and not once did they even pop the hood to take a look.

as long as u have a cat, and they don't check under the hood, i don't see any reason why it won't pass

You can order the Thermal 3" cat-back in the Stealth version which quiets the system 5 decibals.

so how loud is that going to be then? I was thinking about picking up a thermal next year but I dont' know if I should get the regular one or the stealth.

Does anybody have some kind of decibal numbers? 90? 95? 105?

Emissions don't mean anything to me.. I live in michigan. Go big 3! As long as they exist here, we'll never have emission testing. But there is sound limit, does anybody know if the stealth is around 95 decibals?

Also, how does a Thermal sound like? I was hoping for a grumbly low toned growl. Does the stealth make it sound buzzy? I hate buzzy exhuast. Any input is appreciated.

Yeah Snafu-Si, it is low toned. It is not buzzy at all. I like how it sounds. I do not have one on my Civic, but I plan to at some point.

I like the sound of thermal's, had one on my crx then on another on my Si. Now I have a 3" but it isn't on the car. I love the sound around town and all, sometimes it gets old on the interstate after a couple of hours.

are there possible temp silencers for the 3 inchers? I tend to do a lot of long term driving (6 hour trips and what not) and I want to be able to quiet them down a bit... (something easy, simple, and most of all, cheap)

Excellent, now it's only 120dB instead of 125!! Woohoo!!

Anyway, they might not pop your hood, but I know some places like NJ just take a look at the car and driver. If they see a hooked up car, they'll pop the hood. Some people don't care, some just want to frustrate you.

5dB is alot, because dB is a log scale. If you lower it by 3dB it's half as loud as before.

For example, if one exhaust is 10dB and another is 20dB, the 20dB is not twice as loud, it's 10 times as loud as the 10dB.

I'm not a big Thermal R&D fan but the stealth mufflers are the exact same muffler as the classic exhausts. The only addition is that they weld a reversed cone just inside the muffler outlet. This reversed cone basically restricts the exaust flow alittle and recirculates some of the exhaust pulses back into the muffler packing. The cone can easily be seen if you look into the muffler exit. The cone looks like the top of a model rocket with the very tip cut off, now shove the cone into the muffler with the top pointing towards the engine side.

Personally the only thing I would use a Thermal R&D exhaust for is for the 3" SS mandrel bends and piping. I'd replace all of the Thermal resonators and mufflers with something else. But that new 3" Greddy exhaust is starting to look like my kind of alternative.

I just ordered my 3" Thermal yesterday and I asked about the stealth option, and was told that it was not avaliable on the 3" exhausts. You wouldn't want it anyways, it creates back pressure. Also I got a very good price 550 shipped.

anybody want to buy a used-for-only 100 miles thermal 3" catback exhaust for cheap?

btw, the muffler is painted black for stealth purposes

Will your Thermal 3" Exhaust fit a 92 Civic SI hatch? If so, I'm interested!
