i haven't ever driven with one but some things i know..

the engine will rev quicker, however there is less inertia to get you off the line (less rotating mass) so you may have to rev a little higher to get a movin'.

my friend has a 7lb flywheel and it revs real quick. IN boost he needs more rpms cause he is shifting so quick. Ls with a gsr tranny, t3/t4 turbo

I have an 8lb ACT in my turbo sol. I love it. First gear is pointless when racing, but from there on

i have the jun ultralight chromoly flywheel...

i think its great...

the advantages on a NA car apply to a FI car... the disadvantages apply also..

but mostly its just less inertia for starting off...

im sportin the fidanza 7.5 1st gear is definately nothin until about 5 or 6k but its takin teh tires off then anyway...

its extremely fun, I don't know why people make such a big deal about inertia, but if you like to downshift, keep the 7pounder, its a lot of fun, and should help revving the little bugger out

After you get it, rev to 8,000 RPM with the a/c on and then push in the clutch pedal. Watch the revs drop 3x faster than normal

the lighter the flywheel, the quicker the revs will rise AND drop.

For ROAD RACING applications, the 6-8lbs flywheels are recommended.

For DRAG RACING applications, the 10-12lbs flywheels are recommended.

Go as light as possible. More flywheel weight for turbo cars is an internet myth, kind of like LS trannies are best for boost, both are total BS.

i agree with Jared... and it's all in your launch for drag racing. with street tires your rpm will drop 1.5-1k rpm...with slicks 1.5K+ rpm. this is when you learn how to slowly slip your clutch instead of dropping it...or just launch at close to redline.

i had the comptech 8.5lb flywheel in my old setup (LS turbo/gsr quaiffed tranny) and man that thing kicked ***! the flywheel helped out a great deal with the lag that was incorporated with my non-ballbearing snail.

so should i stick with my fidanza? to me the revs don't drop as much as everyone says and it's not hard driving it on the streets.

yes just stick with your fidanza...since you're already used to it anyway. revs dropping is overated IMO. i know i haven't tried anything lower than 8lbs but at 8lbs, how fast/far the revs drop can still be controlled by shifting a little faster.

On the XACT site it says " a lighter flywheel may reduce turbo lag"

i have a 7.5 lb fidanza flywheel, the motor revs realy fast and spool up is sick but to get you off the line it kinda sucks cus you will loose some low end grunt, and it is hard some times to keep the turbo spooled between shifts also, i guess if i had to do it again i wouldnt get one that light probly like a 12lb or something
