Default 500 HP on pump gas!!!

To settle a bit of a debate with hp #'s and race gas and pump gas. I witnessed yesterday my friend Shawn putting down over 400 Whp on a Mustang dyno in his 96 turbo hatch. It was done with 15-16 psi on an innovative t?? turbo. If we hit a dyno-jet dyno I'm sure the rollers would spin to the tune of 500whp.

If and when he decides to jump on a dyno jet, we will give u comparison #'s. The car still drives like it's a stock. Oh, and a bit of credit to the tuner Tom Payn of Payn technologies.

hopefully 14-15 lbs on a built 8.7 to 1 B16 with drag 3 kit will yield me near 300 to the wheels

500 hsp to the wheels on 93 octane is very impressive. unfortunatley it will be short lived.

There is a little thing called mean specific brake consumption, basically it is the "safe" range of our motors on pump gas, 92-93ish octane. So what determines this range? The design of your combustion chamber, what it is made out of, and a few other things. A lot of variables come into play in this little theory as well, but ill keep it simple. The octane quality of a gasoline is its ability to resist detonation, a form of abnormal combustion as you may know. So basically if your buddy is running around on 93 octane with 500whp he is pushing the limits of the msbc and will most likely encounter a bit of detonation which will probably lead to melted pistons. Remember, if he plans on running a higher octane, say 116, the fuel burns leaner then 93 and you will need more timing advance. If he insists on running on pump gas at 500whp, i would recommend purchasing a J&S safeguard just to be on the safe side.

However, manifold pressure has nothing to do w/ mean specific brake consumption. Remember, a larger turbo will make more power with lower manifold pressure than a smaller turbo will. The point of a motor giving up is not so much manifold pressure, as the maximum HP for the motor being exceeded due to limitations of the setup in use. I.E. 500 whp on pump gas will run alright for awhile, but any MINOR variation in octane, intake temperature, etc, all pose new problems for tuning when you are on the brink of exceeding what is safe.

Hopefully that makes sense to others... its almost 5 am! :D

The car has a real safe tune 94 octane was used a/f 11.5 theres no timing in the car at that power level due to the fuel . The car is not making 500whp on the mustang dyno yet but it soon will be with race fuel hopefully everything goes o.k.... I will say its making 500 crank hp.

so basicaly it doesnt make 400-500whp on pump gas as originally stated...but does on race gas?

yeah, thats great. lol. but i was just sayin that my car made a daily drivin pump gas ~380whp.

Yes the car made over 400whp on 94 octane. Thats right around 500 crank hp. The car will be tuned in the future with race fuel and 25+lbs. I own the car.

P.S I drive the car every day and it still gets around 35-40mpg off boost of course.

I used sunoco 94 because sunoco does'nt sell 93 like everywhere else.

Don't compare regular pump UNLEADED 94 gas to LEADED pump 110.

I could use 91 or 93 and it wouldnt make 1 once of difference.

The motor is 9-1 15-16lbs running in boost at 11.4 A/F running no timing.

If i put 110 in I could put timing in and lean it out and make even more power at the same boost level.

I won't give up the complete spec,s on the turbo but heres what i will tell.

The turbo is made by ITS were it utilizes a dual ball bearing setup so spooling the turbo is not really an issue full spool around 5000 rpm.

Theres a few other little tricks in the exhaust housing and manifold to help spool.

P.S no nitrous was installed

He'll never go into specifics. He's got more money than god and to much time on his hands and did alot of research and tried alot of different things. He even made me edit the turbo size on my first post!!

I wish I had that kind of money if so this car would of been built completely different.

Building the car should be fun what's fun about coping what the next guy built that's the reason y my setup is completely different then anyone else's.

Not to be better just to be different that's all.

P.S. DEREK u have alittle bit of money in your car also.
