2JZ 240sx
I know its not a honda, i had it posted in the general debate an discussion forum, i apparently stirred up a hornets nest. Lots of guys PMed me to post it in here.
Here it is guys. Everyone knows we are doing the 2JZ swaps in the Nissans. Here is MORE reason to do the swap. There is NO REASON to do an RB or an SR ANYMORE.
Here is a STOCK 2JZ swap vs a RB20 vs a SR20
ALL AT STOCK BOOST, all have an Exhaust, Frontmount intercooler
That is a SOLID 100whp/100TQ over the other motors
This car has NO TUNING
The Torque is what is amazing, NO SR20 or RB20 comes close to a 2JZ torque. Plus, you buy an AEM, Injectors, Single turbo and a Manifold and you can make 700-800whp.
2JZ PROS:
Stock Bottom end that can handle 800whp+
Relatively Cheap
Bullet proof bottom end
Bullet Proof 700whp Tranny
Endless supply of parts
The Sr20s max out at 450 on a stock bottom end. then you got tranny issues, they break like glass, same with the RB20s. To make an SR20 or RB20 make over 400whp, you need turbo, injectors, manifold, downpipe, rocker arm stoppers, cams, and more. AN you still have a STOCK bottom end that cant handle past 400-450whp, and a glass tranny that willl break
I know im comparing a 6cylinder Twin Turbo to 4 cylinder Single turbo. But my point is if you price an SR20 or an RB20 by a reputable shop, for a few dollars more you can do the 2JZ.
The argument has been made that i should compare an RB26 to our 2JZ swap. Well if you can FIND a Rb26 INSTALLED for cheaper than what we do the 2JZ for, im interested. Plus, IMHO, the 2JZ is cheaper, easier to work on vs the rb26 if future mods are in the works.
you make the choice

Absolutely amazing. I'll have to check this out at the Varsity tonight. I've never been to visit your shop, but I have heard great things about you all. Keep it up with the car enthusiasm

Re: (Mykizism)
that is oretty cool. just wondering though...whats up with the torque right around 4k? and dont those motors rev higher than that? or was this just for a quick comparision?

Re: (nebulight)
so, since this is a tech forum?
what's all needed?
I assume custom mounts, but what about the drivetrain, custom drive shaft to go to the nissan rear-end? any special triming to get tranny in there?
how about wiring, I assume you have to swap out the engine harness, how do you get the toyota harness to interact with the cabin harness for cluster and such?

Re: (nebulight)
wow lots of questions lol
Wiring is not too bad, its complicated, but not crazy.
Yes there are still issues with the Tach and Speedo that we are working on. Most of the guys just build a custom gauge pod . But we are pursuing ways to get teh tach to work. They function, but the speedo is 30mph off, and the RPM is 1500rpm off. Its because of the difference in sensors from the nissan to the toyota motor.
The speedo is ELECTRICAL where the Tarnny we use is mechanical. we are fabbing up an apparatus to get it to work.
im confident all the bugs (which is just the speedo an tach) will be worked out by this weekend.
Mounts are easy, drivetrain is SIMPLE. The only hard part like i said is the wiring, tach/speedo issues, but taht is to be expected.
Oh and good luck taking the twins off without pulling the motor back out. i hate Supra twin turbo removals, its a nightmare lol
thanks for the compliments

obviously i cant release all the info, as we want to protect our interests. but ill try my best to answer the questions:
Wiring is all custom, you must matte the Yota harnes sto the Nissan harness.
Mounts we make in house, solid mounts.
Tranny fits fine, no issues. we provide a custom driveshaft
The RX7 we did we had to build a custom oil pan, but the 240sx there is lots of room

Re: (PM-Performance)
No we dont use the 6 speed for these reasons:
a 6 speed swap is WAY more money. It drives the price up $3000-3500 dollars which kind of negates doing it in the first place.
We use a 5 speed tranny (IT IS NOT THE NA TRANNY) and it will hold 700whp. our shop car has dragged at 2 events, drift fury, countless dyno pulls and street time with no issues .
its a lighter car, therefore, the tranny will hold.
if you wnt a 6 speed we will do it, but its really no needed unless you are wanting a 6 speed for a reason , or you want to shoot for 700+. but, for the price of a 6 speed, we could do a TH400
