Default 2" intercooler pipe??

should i have any concerns about using a 2" ID pipe from the turbo to the intercooler and then 2.25" ID pipe from intercooler to intake on a soon to be 400+whp d16?

im thinking the 2.25" will be fine but what about the 2" ?

so if it is 2" out then that piping setup will be fine for a soon to be 400whp d16?

I run 2.5 all the way. Your intercooler only has 2.25 in/out? What is it?

platinum.

I ran 2" to turbo then 2.25" on my B series, I have read that it hardly makes a diff unless your over 500+hp.

IMO 2" is a pretty good restricton.... I have a friend though with 350WHP "400 in dynojet terms" in a B. He only has 2" hot side pipe.
I do belive there is a point where it hurts but i dont know what that point is. Id like to know

If the outlet on your turbo is 2".... i do not see a loss, air will travel faster through the smaller pipe, like i said.... i dont see a problem unless you are over 500+hp.

as long as the pipings equal or greater to the turbo outlet, it should be equal or less of a restriction than the turbo outlet, it seems like.

I can see and somewhat agree with the mentality that only as big as the turbo outlet is what you'd want to go with, but the way air flows, bends cause turbulance / restriction. With such a high goal as 400+, if you haven't already made the charge pipes, you may want to go with 2.25 of 2.5. If you already have the 2" pipes made up, go for it. Later on you could always see if you get a noticable gain from sizing up. Good luck.

edit: re-reading your post, if it's only from the turbo to the intercooler, as long as its pretty direct with smooth bends, I think you should be alright. Only one way to find out.

I was also just thinking, the pressure right after the turbo, like in it's outlet, is probobly higher then the rest of the system as well because its coming out there.

I would think that if you switch those pipe around and have 2.5" from turbo to intercooler and 2" from intercooler to intake manifold, it might technically be better for flow.

The idea being that the cooler air would be denser and pushing it through a 2" pipe would help speed it up as it enters your intake.

I thought about that too, but I think that once it gets into the intercooler, you would be bottle necking it trying to re-force it through a smaller pipe.... but it would definately increase velocity. I do not think it would be preferable in my car due to the fact that I am runnin a 70mm TB and that basically takes away the whole purpose of it.

I agree with vteg. If the piping is to big coming off the turbo then you would probably see a slower spool up. Maybe it is necessary if you had a bigger turbo with a 2.5 outlet from the turbo.
