Y8 timing tuning
Ok guys,
So I havn't decided for sure yet if I'm going to use neptune or crome pro, it's going to be whatever the tuner is more comfertable with.
I want some knowledge of tuning the timing while it's being tuned, so I can know if what is being done is "safe" or not.
With a Y8 motor the base timing is 12* instead of 16* correct?
Can the software be set to start out timing at 12* base, or does some other funky adjustments have to be made to make this happen?
Also I will be attempting to make low to mid 300's on a 57 trim t3/t4, 8.5:1 c/r stock head and 93 pump gas.
I don't really want to push it past a safe zone, which is why I was thinking I will call it good on whatever I make on around 20 psi, hopefully above 300 whp.
All that said, what would a relativly safe timing number be for 20 psi on 93 pump, assuming the car is making around 300-325 whp?
My goal is to know if a good safe number is lets say 15* advanced, I want to make sure I don't leave the dyno with 22* of timing because it was happy on the dyno with that number, then end up detonating like hell and blowing the motor/ headgasket because of it.

neptune>chrome... be sure you have a tuner close by you who can tune this program.
12 degrees on a base map y7,y8 map add boost tables and all that other stuff you want. have your tuner tune it to maximum break torque or point where it detonates and makes the most usuable pwoer band then tell them to back off 2-3 degrees. y-series engines do not need a lot of timing to make power they actually like less to make the most power. but EVERY ENGINE is different! 300-400whp on a SOHC isnt unheard of nowadays and quite common just make sure your tuner is comfortable with SOHC's and have plenty of expierence with them. i have friends making 450-500whp on 93-94 octane on y8's
