Default VAFC question

Hey there everybody, this is my first post here so please bear with me.

I have a question about the function of the Apexi VAFC/VAFCII.

Can the unit be used to control anything other than VTEC? I dont have a honda, i have a 1994 tercel with the engine from a toyota starlet (5efhe, 1.5l dohc), and it has a dual runner intake manifold, which is controlled by a solenoid.

the ecu i have does not support control of the solenoid, so i have to control it with something else. Can i use the VTEC control wire to trigger the solenoid?

i was thinking i could run a 12v signal to the vtec input on the vafc, and then use the vafc to adjust the output rpm to cycle the solenoid.

the signal to the vtec input on the vafc could be a switched 12v signal, or i could use a wot switch to control it.

do i have any of this right? or is there a better way to do it?
i was also going to use the vafc to adjust fuel, along with my wideband o2.

In theory what you said should work as far as running a switched input for the 12v power and VAFC can also control fueling to some degree FYI. I would give it a shot if you have nothing else, but its old technology. BTW might get a better response on a forum like RHMT, they have got a lot of budget build gurus over there.

thanks sk8r, i know its old tech, but its an old car.

i used to have another car running an safcII and it helped out a good bit, so i figured for small fuel adjustments and controlling the solenoid this might be the easiest option.

i was going to use this: wot/rpm switch, but i also want a little bit of fuel control so the vafc seems to be the answer. plus its way cheaper than piggyback/standalone.

I don't know much about the motor you're working with, but if its MAF you won't be able to use the VAFC for fuel control.

it has a map sensor, and i have used a safcII on another tercel in the past (turbo sohc) which uses all the same sensors.

Okay. Just making sure. The SAFC has more capability than the VAFC when it comes to sensors. The VAFC only works on speed density.

I've tuned that engine, I believe the solenoid signal is inverted. Check the connector pins on that solenoid, if one pin gives you 12v you'll just need to add a relay instead of connecting it directly. Otherwise just connect it to the pin that isn't grounded.
